Beautifully written. Yes, it's dated. Yes, the neuroscience has come a long, long way since the book was written. But it doesn't matter. This book provides a fascinating historical-philosophical perspective on the development of the brain sciences, and filled in gaps in my knowledge.

For budding brain scientists, it won't teach you very much. But for those intrigued by how we have approached the brain and its functions, it's a great little resource. Jeannerod is rightly held as an authority in this area, but his prose (and the translation) enhances the pleasure of the journey.
