Rate this book
Dust jacket "Leslie Halliwell's name is known to thousands of movie fans for his delightful Film Guide, a gold mine of instant information on more than 10,000 movies. Now this highly respected film expert gives us a glimpse of 100 of his personal favorites, including All About Eve, Blithe Spirit, Bringing Up Baby, Casablanca, Duck Soup, Fantasia, The Grapes of Wrath, The Maltese Falcon, North By Northwest, The Philadelphia Story, Rebecca, Sullivan's Travels, The Thirty-Nine Steps, Twelve Angry Men, and The Wizard of Oz. Here are films that have entertained with such dazzling professionalism and glamor that they have found a secure place in the memories of generations of movie lovers. All share an appeal that seems sharpened rather than diminished by time. Halliwell explains how this can be so when many more recent films are forgotten within months after their release. With extensive quotations from scripts and 100 carefully chosen movie stills, Halliwell's Hundred brings back into focus a delightful collection from the golden age of movies."
