This wasn't a bad book at all however the ending sucked, to my knowledge he hasn't wrote a part 2 yet so why the strange ending, no one knows what happens to any of the characters. I would have liked to have known what happens to Sarah at least.

Whenever writing a story that either depicts or elaborates on slavery it's always important to first educate the reader of that day and time... I think he hit a lot of key points but at the same time fail short of really going into detail of how people suffered during that time, also there were a few grammar imperfections that could have easily been made however I did fully understand where he was coming from and I thought the book was actually quite interesting.for example there's a part in the book where Peter Washington has to be whipped by his master, doing that time if he would have elaborated more in detail of how he was whooped, the pain he suffered in the things he went through I think that would have brought just a little bit more intensity to the book.overall I find it to be a pretty good book I would recommend it to family and friends and think that it could possibly be a film if more work was put into it.

The characters names were very interesting, the plot of story was not bad.... the names though I just can't stop thinking about "Bottega washington"
was considered to be a mad man who was obsessed with that house. After reading this book it does gives you the creeps thinking about some of these characters.

How many black people you know with a mansion in the woods,secondly the moment I hear a sound of anything that resembles
unhuman like activity am out!! The dude Bottega was crazy just like his granddady Peter. I personally don't think it was the slaves that kept them in the house it had to be the black demon which was clearly Peter Washington. there was no mystery to this at all.

Overall I would have to say this novel was pretty neat...The storyline was very inticing however the ending could have been a lot better given that the entire time you often wondered what would happen to Sarah.

A couple years ago I had the opportunity to read this novel, I found it to be very interesting; the plot of the story was great and the characters names gave it that extra touch. I would like to have known what happened at the end, there was a major cliffhanger in knowing what happened to Sarah.

I couldn't imagine my dad locking me in our house located in the woods where your closest neighbor is about an hour away. Just the thought of all this gives me the creeps. I believe if April would have not encountered that evil force this story would have played out totally different.
