When I'm not up to my knees in nappies, I write children's books. I also spend a fair amount of time eating chocolate. I try to write funny, read-aloud books that parents will enjoy as much as children - after all, if you have to share the same stories umpteen times, you may as well enjoy them.
I hope you like my books enough to read them umpteen times. Thank you - Michelle.

The Lobster’s Vacation by Michelle Robinson is a fun read-aloud story of a Lobster, who escapes the chef’s cooking pot, purchases a British-style Newsboy-peaked Tartan cap at a waterfront gift shop, and plays tourist visiting several Nova Scotia Landmarks. He also participates in many traditional summer activities, such as kite flying, camping, blueberry picking, and having ice cream before heading back home to the ocean. The illustrations by Paul G. Hammond are bold and colourful and capture the words on the page brilliantly while retaining a Nova Scotia feel. This picture book would make a great gift for a family with children who have visited or are planning to visit Nova Scotia and for any young Bluenoser.

The back cover of this book describes the story as a “quirky rhyming story” and what’s quirkier than a lobster that leaves the ocean to go on a vacation around Nova Scotia! A delightful tale made even more so by the art work of Paul G. Hammond. His artwork and chosen colours remind me of the illustrations in Margaret Wise Brown’s books. Each page has something interesting to look at like a band of animal musicians in the middle of the woods, or a cute little sea urchin peeking out from under the ocean. This is a book with a bouncing rhythm and one to read aloud over and over again.

*4.5 stars! This was awesome, and except for an extra space between "back" and "door" (an extra space in addition to the single space between the two words), this is a great children's book. I admit that I loved this story even more because I used to live in Halifax, NS! Such great rhymes and rhythm and meter; something that not all children's authors are good at, so kudos to Robinson.

As I continue to hunt down great children's books for my nephew and friends' kids, this is one that is going on my "To Buy" list for them.

In rhyme and fun illustrations, this story is about a lobster who gets caught in a lobster pot (trap) and then escapes from the kitchen. He goes on vacation, seeing many wonderful things until he is homesick for the ocean and his friends.
