Fantasy Meets Heartfelt Realities: A Dive into 'Eclipse Arts'

From the moment I opened "Eclipse Arts" and read the touching shoutout, "For anyone who has ever felt like they didn’t quite fit in," I knew I was in for a treat. Michelle Chastaine effortlessly weaves a captivating middle-grade fantasy that took me on a journey alongside Liska, Ephy, and Airin. The complexities of their personal battles, especially against the backdrop of their family expectations, felt both relatable and heartwarming. Chastaine's world-building is highly imaginative, and her writing style is easy to follow, making every chapter engaging. As a fan of "Percy Jackson" and "The House in the Cerulean Sea", this book felt right up my alley, blending fantasy with the nuances of friendship and identity. And with the teaser of "Ephy in the Spotlight" on the horizon, I'm anxiously awaiting its release! This gem would make a perfect gift for young readers in my life, and I can't recommend it enough!

The Power of Friendship

There was a lot to like here. Liska, Airin, and Ephy form a great friendship group and work together to overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams. Their different supernatural identities combine well together. They all struggle against family expectations being from families that are not supportive of their dreams. I found the competing challenges of Airin and Ephy and how the group navigated that an interesting twist.

The book is imaginative and fun. Oliver makes a good but not too threatening villain and the story builds to a nice conclusion. While I can tell it was important to the author, I found the focus on pronouns to be a bit distracting at times…especially with Airin. But…all in all…it is a fun book with characters who are easy to root for with nice character arcs.

Ephy, Liska and Airin are the image I have in my head when I think of friendship goals. I would love to read more about their adventures at Eclipse Arts. I'm also really curious about how their relationship with their parents will be affected by their choices. Please, keep writting like this!
