I will be the first to admit that the subject of Economics baffles me. At least it did. I think I may have a better understanding of it thanks to the graphic and straightforward explanations in Eduard Altarriba’s simply named, Economics. His approach is one I can happily get behind – he uses definitions followed by explanations and adds in graphics. That makes it certain that this book is going to be perfect for adults like me, who need some help getting our heads around subjects such as ‘creating money out of nothing’ and evens such as ‘The Tulip Bubble.’ It is even better for young people who are perhaps studying Economics at school, in some places it is an A Level subject, or who just want to have a better understanding of the economy and its impact on our daily lives.
Asking questions such as ‘Where does economics come from?’ ‘Why do we use it?’ and “How does it affect the world around us?’ this book approaches the subject with a series of easy-to- understand explanations about the world of economics, a world that is at times incredibly complex. Children (and some adults I am sure) often wonder why, for example, the government don’t just print more money when they need it – this is explained simply and succinctly ensuring the reader goes away with an understanding and perhaps also a curiosity, a wanting to know more. Economics is all around us, it is on the news, in conversations and it is not often explained. This book can explain, it can support studies and it may even spark an interest in some young minds. There is nothing better than finding a book to help young minds understand a subject and link it to the world around them. Econ
