Reproductions of historical photographs mark this look at the life and vision of Civil War photographer Mathew Brady, whose work, along with the work of his assistants, provides a visual record of the people and events of his time.
This is a very good book about one of the first American photographers, Mathew Brady, who was renowned for his work during the civil war. I am a high school librarian but many times order nonfiction that is not as difficult and still has the subject content. I've seen much of Brady's work and am fascinated how he made the war up close and personal altho there was no media at the time. He photographed Lincoln many times, as well as numerous presidents and military figures. This book is for 12 years and up. The photos were great and the information about Brady was interesting. It mostly dealt with his career, but for a class assignment background information, it was a perfect book. I loved looking into those faces of the boys and men (and sometimes women!) who were photographed by Brady. Do they look different from us today. No they are the same. These people took part in a bloody war and Brady depicted the good, bad and ugly.
