Over the last five years, Elizabeth Bennet's life has been a succession of misfortunes, but despite everything, she has not become an embittered woman. The one person who gave her the strength to keep going in the saddest moments of her life was her dear sister Jane and then little Lizzy-Rose.I warn you, this is a heartbreaking story, and many characters die.

She would never see the seashore. >>Trope: death of many characters
I first read this as a WIP on the forums. It is a tough read with tragedy around every corner. Elizabeth lost it all. It was heartbreaking. Heed the author’s warning. No kidding. Also, be prepared as Darcy does not come off as squeaky clean. No, he had more than one crash-and-burn of his own to deal with. Oh-My-Goodness! A woman [not a lady by any means] wanted him and would do what was necessary to get him. She was bold and brazen in her actions and deeds. Elizabeth had endured a lot during the time she was separated from Darcy. At times I wanted to throw my reading device. However, I held on until the happy ever after and it was worth it.
Yes, you warned us that it was a sad story, but you also put the editor's name on the cover. False advertising!! Did the editor actually read the book?
Lots of death, sadness, and mistakes, but an interesting plotline. A fire causes the death of all Elizabeth's family except Jane. There's even more sadness in Darcy's, life. But after he inadvertently sees Lizzy, he decides to pursue the one woman he has loved. And don't be an obstacle to his happiness or else!
Lots of characters die but not for nefarious reasons. Some are soldiers, some die in a fire some die of natural reasons. In the end so much death has some negative effects on Lizzie and Darcy.
It could never be that Jane Bennet does not end up with Charles Bingley, marries someone else and dies at childbirth.
It could never be that Elizabeth Bennet does not marry for love, but only for practicality, becomes a widow and becomes Mrs. Darcy way later in the story.
It could never be that Fitzwilliam Darcy marries someone else, has relations with prostitutes, and marries Elizabeth Bennet only after years of reflection and regret.
This story broke this reader’s heart for several reasons. Darcy and Elizabeth can only be each other’s first and only love and marriage. Jane Bennet can only end up with Charles Bingley. That is what this reader’s idea of an ideal variation. And yet, this variation is significant as it shows readers what would have happened if Fitzwilliam Darcy didn’t act on his love and inclination to win the affections of the only woman he loved. It makes one realize the consequences of the what if Darcy was too proud and arrogant to consider his love for Elizabeth Bennet worth fighting for, above everything else in his life. It’s as one is getting a glimpse of that tragedy as by told of the Ghost of Christmas future. This variation is the Ghost of Christmas future, one so horrible and horrendously heartbreaking.
Heartbreak of this kind needs about 2 or 3 low-angst variations for subsequent reading. A 3 1/2 rounded to 4, this unfathomable one!
Keep some tissues at hand but don't miss this story. It is an excellent plot, well written that, I think, gives a glimpse into the way of life of the time.
This has heart ache and joy. I could not put it down. While the story had many sad moments. It also had great strength of character, family wholesomeness, and joy.
As sad as it was that all of the Bennets died within two years of each other, I found this variation to be interesting unique. Only thing that rubbed a bit was the nickname for Jane’s daughter, just call the child Rose.
And also very beautiful!! I enjoyed this very much. The one thing that is very canon is Elizabeth's strength of will. She is very much like a Phoenix who in this case literally rises from the ashes.
I'm a fan of DiChiara's knack for storytelling. This is a glimpse of a flawed Darcy discovering how badly things can go wrong and that everything that glitters isn't gold. Darcy, realizing his mistakes, tries to win Elizabeth's hand, hoping his past will not come back and bite him in the process.
Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy must separately overcome many tragedies before they can appreciate each other and find their happily ever after. There are a LOT of tragedies!
Good premise, however choppy execution ane prevalent grammatical and spelling errors. Thart being said, I was able to continue with the story to it happy conclusion.
This would improve greatly with proof reading and greater development of the character interaction. More tension between characters would make for a better read.
A good effort, and worth your time. The author will only improve from here.
Entertaining variation, but written in the style of 'telling' more than 'showing' so it is basically narrating what happened, instead of being with the characters and experiencing it through them. There are a number of typos, wrong words, but it doesn't throw the reader off too much. It's a good concept, and more of an outline, if th author can grow her writing to transform it into a dialogue driven work, it will greatly improve the storyline.
I did not enjoy this book as much as others from this author. It wasn't even because of the tragedies; it just seemed like things dragged on much too long. This is my second reading and I'm ready to quit at 2/3 through the story. In spite of so many things happening, the writing is rather bland and boring most of the time, in between the tragedies and the little bit of happiness in there.
I suppose Darcy got a bit of what he deserved for marrying just anybody, but it was depressing to see what a horrible marriage he had with Lady Maria, and I still don't quite understand how he fell for her and her family's deceit. I did like to see Darcy's gradual understanding of what was truly meaningful to him (namely not being married for wealth or connections or consequence). But then I especially hated Margareth Smith and her entanglement of Mr. Darcy - UGH.
Elizabeth also had a lot of growing up to do after losing her family except for Jane, but then having to care for Jane's health, then losing Jane and having to care for Jane's baby when Jane's husband dies. Being so happily married to Colonel Barton and tragically losing him at Waterloo; how much sorrow can one person survive? It was good to see that she accepted that she needed to actually communicate with Darcy in order to understand their relationship.

The story begins a week before Lydia goes to Brighton, Elizabeth has already rejected Mr. Darcy’s marriage proposal, and Mr. Bingley has already left for London without any intention of coming back to Netherfield. I’ve been a fan of all the books by Lorena DiChiara, yet, I did not see this one coming; it helped me realize how a chain of events needs to follow a sequence of steps to come true, meanwhile, all the characters are human with virtues, flaws and free will. But what happens when one incident, one tragedy interrupts the chain of events while life has to go on? I rate this book 5 stars because, as a reader, I couldn’t stop reading, the story was too engaging. On the negative side, a couple of times, the story came a little too close to “Sense and Sensibility” by Jane Austen. I would recommend this book to all the fans of Jane Austen.
If you do not like when Darcy and Elizabeth are with others, stop don't read. If you like an adventure with emotional aspect along with them starting with others, but ending with HEA than proceed with cation. This story has emotional turmoil from beginning to end. What D & E went though is horrible, but so sweet in the end. I loved how enjoyable Elizabeth was along with Darcy determination. I loved where E volunteered, what a thoughtful idea foe the story. Loved the new villain in story. Clean, thoughtful, emotional, thrilling, and a definite recommendation for readin.
Can I give zero stars? This is not the first book by this author…but it reads like an amateur. If I was an editor and my name is on the COVER of a book, I would hope I had been better at my job. Darcy was a cad and Elizabeth was too milk-toast for me.
