What dark truth is Peggy desperately trying to uncover? And will she ever recover from the trauma that fractured her perfect world?
DREAM ME HOME is a story of betrayal, infidelity, and love written by Laurie Elizabeth Murphy. This is the story of Peggy Prescott, who is caught between the people in her life whom she trusted. She constantly finds herself a victim of betrayal, dishonesty, and manipulation. This story and narration are unlike anything I've read before. The story begins with Peggy narrating her life in the present as she is inside a coffin in a hearse! When I read the first chapter, I thought Peggy was probably still alive, and people around her were unaware of this. As the story progressed, I was amazed to read that she was actually narrating her life before she died, delivering clues to her murder. It felt as if Peggy Prescott was inside a control room, watching and planning the events of her life one by one.
For its wonderful plot, suspense, and amazing reading experience, I rate this book 5/5 stars.
This book is not recommended to age 16 and below, since it contains mature themes.
Autopsy of a marriage: a prelude to reality – A stunning novel!
Florida author Laurie Elizabeth Murray is a Registered Nurse counselor, having earned her PhD in Psychology, and has served as a counselor in a clinical practice dealing with marital issues, divorce and its impact on children. Her books to date include WHEREVER THE WIND BLOWS ME, CELLOPHANE MEMORIES, and now this sensitive, spellbinding novel DREAM ME HOME: A STORY OF BETRAYAL, INFIDELITY AND LOVE.
With extraordinary skill Murray has composed a complex, highly original mystery related through the eyes and mind of one Peggy Prescott who delivers clues to her own murder, beginning from her entrance into this novel in a hearse! Married to a highly successful Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Rob Prescott, her communication with the reader involves an investigation of a home invasion by two thugs that resulted in physical and psychic trauma. Weaving the interplay of a cast that includes Rob’s best friend and medical school roommate – the egregious Arnie Stimmel, whose envy of Rob’s success and wife creates a toxic spin on the story; the acerbic Dr. Sherman, a strange psychiatrist whose interaction with his patient Peggy adds suspense; the investigating Detective Harvey, piecing together strands of evidence about the perpetrator of the home invasion; and Peggy’s aged mother, housed in a nursing home with odd rules about sleeping meds… The fascinating and mind-bending story is related by the deceased Peggy in forms of memory, insights, interactions with the men in her life, and radiant sleep-induced visits to an imaginary place – ‘Home’ - where she is greeted by a formerly deceased lover, and a subsequent rekindling of passion. Peggy’s strange murder completes this captivating mystery with mesmerizing surprises!
Murphy’s polished writing skills, aided by her insights from her experiences as a psychologist, infuse this mystery with thoughts on relationships, marriage, masculinity virtues and vices, and oneirology (the study of dreams): “Dreams have been the subject of study since the beginning of time, covert images to keep away the truth, people and places from everyday life coded in symbols, emotions repressed. The interpretation of dreams is speculative, at best, but every so often, when the content is blatant, when even the dreamer themselves understands the meaning clearly, the significance of the unconscious can no longer be denied.” Eloquent and wholly absorbing, DREAM ME HOME is an exceptionally fine novel by a gifted author. Very highly recommended on many levels.

This thrilling mystery had me hooked from the first chapter! Following the death of Peggy Prescott, Dream Me Home recounts her life leading up to that moment. It is a tale of love and betrayal with twists and turns at every corner!
This psychological drama follows the love story of Peggy and her husband, Rob. When Peggy winds up dead, there is plenty of evidence to say he did it. However, there is more to the story, as their relationship reveals. Not to mention, the other people in Peggy’s life that could be involved: unknown home robbers that threaten to return to finish the job, Rob’s old friend with an obsession with destroying his life, and a therapist with questionable business practices. Meanwhile, Peggy dreams of a mysterious lover and a perfect life, and eventually, it seems that her dreams could be closer to reality than you could imagine. Peggy herself is a fascinating character, as I was often wondering if I could trust her judgment of others and whether or not her suspicions were true. A good unreliable narrator sets the tone perfectly for this mystery!
Dream Me Home is a quick read that will have you on the edge of your seat. I was captivated by every character, they were well-written and realistic, and I constantly found myself questioning who was innocent and who was guilty, which is perfect for a book of this genre! I love the bits of psychology sprinkled throughout, as it left me analyzing every character and their motives, and the final twist was unexpected in the best way possible. I would highly recommend this book to any murder mystery fans!
I love a story that captures my attention with the first paragraph. Dream Me Home: A Story of Betrayal, Infidelity and Love by Laurie Elizabeth Murphy is an enthralling psychological thriller. This story is filled with jaw-dropping plot twists that had me absorbed throughout the book. Every time I thought I knew what would happen next, something completely different happened.
In the opening chapter the main character, Peggy Prescott is telling the story of her demise. This alone piqued my curiosity. She continues by telling the story of how she and her husband Rob met and moved from Massachusetts to an elite community in Florida. Eventually, Rob’s busy career as a plastic surgeon grew, leaving Peggy alone much of the time. When a terrifying home invasion occurs at their house, life as they knew it changes drastically. Peggy begins to see Dr. Sherman, an obnoxious psychiatrist, to overcome her fears. Meanwhile, a detective is convinced that Rob orchestrated the home invasion among other things. Furthermore, Rob’s best friend Arnie, has sinister plans for the couple. The real twist is what happens when Peggy takes sleeping pills and closes her eyes at night. The turns of events make for a fascinating storyline.
Murphy is a full-time author who draws from her previous experience as a Registered Nurse and Psychotherapist to create her debut novel, Dream Me Home. I was thrilled to find out that she is currently writing a sequel to this book. I cannot begin to imagine what will happen with each of the characters next. Only time will tell.
After sliding into this book you will be stuck, glued to the pages as the unfolding fictional narrative of ‘Dream Me Home,’ by Laurie Elizabeth Murphy, draws one in emotionally, psychologically and physically. You will look at everyone around you differently, beware and be careful, however, that only tells a small part of an engrossing novel with a subtitle which says it all, ‘A Story of Betrayal, Infidelity and Love.’ The story moves fast and centers around one couple, Rob and Peggy Prescott, and their lives together from college and over two decades afterwards. It starts with her untimely demise and moves back and forth along many different time lines, all intersecting numerous times and easily followed.
From the first page to the last, one lives in the heads of a supporting cast of accomplished and not so accomplished humans who are flawed to one degree or another, all laced with juicy back stories and upbringings which color their actions, good and bad. As a reader, like watching a horror film where one screams for the innocent victim to run, you will be saying why did she do this, or why did he do that? But that does no good because author Murphy keeps the story moving rapidly forward, hardly offering time for a breath or a break.
‘Dream Me Home’ is ride worth taking all the way till the very last word.
Peggy Prescott, a woman in her 40's found dead in bed, bruised and battered. Yet her husband sleeping beside her says, " she was fine when we went to sleep". Who is always the first suspect, the spouse: Dr Rob Prescott. Was he having an affair, after all, he's a handsome, high income d surgeon? The autopsy leaves the coroner's grasping at straws to determine the cause of death. DO NOT read the last chapter, keep challenging yourself to one up with the cause of death. Meanwhile, the husband has been charged. On to book 2, "Dream Me Dead" for more unbelievable drama.
This book is both a psychological thriller as well as a beautiful love story, with twists and turns that keep the reader guessing until the very end. The chapters are small and the plot is easy to follow. It is the winner of many writing and book awards in 2024. If you don't mind staying up all night, then this is the book to read!!
