Jon Pulsipher has worked with some of the top names in gaming: Xbox, Unity, and Twitch. He’s spoken at game conferences, and has been building, playing, and mentoring in the game industry since the early 80s. He’s always advocated that ANYONE can learn to program. I was in 5th grade when I wrote my very first game (with his help!), a text-based choose-your-own-adventure story written in C#.

In 15 Minutes to Your First GameMaker Game, Jon Pulsipher simply explains the basics of GameMaker programming, from downloading GameMaker to showing your friends your very first game.

Its been a LONG time since I coded, I really wasn’t sure I could do it. And my husband hasnt ever used GameMaker so I knew I’d be on my own! But I decided to take the GameMaker challenge to give an honest review. 1hr16mins until I had something runable on my screen, and another hour and a half to get to a playable, child approved game! All in an afternoon- that’s pretty impressive.

The second edition of the book has been updated and expanded and is full of tons of ways to deepen your skills and enhance your game beyond just the first project. This book is great for anyone looking to give gamemaking a try. We are definitely going to use it in our homeschool too!

An excellent book for any beginner who is interested in video game programming.
It took a little longer than 15 minutes, but it is an excellent start for anyone who is interested in programming video games in GameMaker.
