After being featured as Tony Stark's love interest in 2022, Patsy Walker (Hellcat!) is back! Cantwell dusted off a character seldom used in recent years and added some new spins on her history. She debuted years ago as a 'teen romance' character. It was wayyyyy back in the 40's and it was pretty similar to what Archie comics was, and still is.

Anyway, onto the 70s where she was reintroduced as a superheroine. She fell in love with a literal son of Satan and dark things started happening to her (depression, suicide, and a resurrection). She recently popped up in She-Hulk issues as a PI, and she's also been in Iron Man issues as a love interest for Tony Stark.

Now? We have her back to striking out on her own yet leaning on her origin story. She's back living in the house she grew up in. Her mother's ghost is haunting the house too. Her friend Hedy (from the teen romance years) is around as her BFF. Patsy Walker gets to try and get some normalcy in her life.

BUT...
*She keeps flashing back to her dad leaving her family. Family issues still unresolved?
*She can't remember how her boyfriend died. Did she do it? Did she fight someone else?
* Helstrom is back and stuck in the form of a stuffed bunny toy.

Bonus: MF'ing Sleepwalker? Really? What a weird hero that hasn't fit into ANYTHING they placed him in

As someone with only passing minimal knowledge about Hellcat as a street-level hero, Hellcat (the book) explores the ramifications of continuity on the character through her supernatural transformation in the early 90s, serving both as a meditation on how the relationships we have complicate how we understand our own sense of self and as a commentary on the trauma of having someone else define one’s own insert. These thematic explorations combined with high quality art make this book easy to recommend for fans of supernatural comics, especially Marvel horror.
