6 books3 followersHi! I’m Danica Barreau (duh-NEE-kuh buh-ROH).
I was born in Ohio and then lived in France and Germany for awhile. I grew up with a beautiful red-headed spaniel named “Bellissa” and a few cats, all named “Titus”. I have always loved animals. Mom says I wanted to sit under the table with the dog when we went out to restaurants and I always had to say hi to the pets first when we went to visit anyone.
My mom was an English teacher and my dad is an artist so I was always encouraged to read, write, draw, and paint. I loved books about magic and books about dogs and, well, books about magic dogs were the best!
I came back to Ohio to go to college and got a job as a process analyst and technical writer for a big company. I started my own business drawing portraits and creating websites, then became a professional pet photographer, and now I’m back to painting portraits! As a photographer I use the computer a lot to edit my images and I realized that I could paint on the computer, too! That’s how I create all of my paintings now.
I rescued an English Setter and absolutely fell in love with the breed. I’ve fostered over twenty English Setters and just HAD to write a book about them! I published the first edition of “Setterly Yours: A Photographic Introduction to The English Setter” in 2009 and then rewrote it and republished it in 2016. The second edition won a silver medal from the Independent Publishers.
I adopted Rook, a Flat-Coated Retriever and English Setter cross, and he was such a character. Everyone kept telling me I needed to write a book about him. So I did! And of course, I had to do all the illustrations, too. “Rook and the Magic Door” is hopefully the first in a series about brave and curious Rook and his magic door. I have a lot of ideas!

Rook and the Magic Door is a wonderfully illustrated and beautifully written story about a dog named Rook and the many adventures he takes through his Magic Door. It is such a delightfully whimsical story and each page is a story within a story. Children of ALL ages will absolutely love it! It will become the favorite bedtime story of every child, and a cherished book to pass on to the next generation. I highly recommend this book to young and old alike!

Rook and the Magic Door is such a fun story for all dog lovers. It is written as a children’s story, but I enjoyed it too. An added bonus is the beautiful artwork created by the author.

Beautifully illustrated childrens book about the adventures of Rook, a real dog who lives with his Mommy. Good for any age.

The author does an incredible job of pulling you into the mind of a puppy and his magic door. What awaits this time? Such a fun simple read with incredible imagery.
