This book is the foundation for modern aircraft stress analysis, and is indispensable for design engineers as well.

E.F. Bruhn deals with each topic of analysis in sufficient detail, providing practical formulas along with enough theoretical background to satisfy most analysts. He also identifies references in each section that enables folks wanting more understanding to research each topic out fully.

In addition, he provides detailed practical examples for many of the topics, making checking on one's understanding easily verifiable. There are a number of typos in the book, so engineers using the book should be wary and develop an attitude of checking as they go. Also, there are also a few lists of these typos available online to assist in rapidly finding many of these.

Unfortunately, some copies of the text arrive without an index, but one can be found online or copied from others and glued to the inside cover to augment the oversight.

While the book is not perfect, it is recognized (aircraft) industry-wide as the best in the field, and the title is recognized and appreciated by interviewers in the industry.

The next best is Peery's first edition of Aircraft Structures, which is now available from Dover for about $25. Peery deals with a few subjects better than Bruhn, but on other subjects his book is less comprehensive.

Anyone in aircraft structural analysis, or wishing to enter this field, should make Bruhn & Peery their number one & two texts, followed by Roark's Formula's for Stress & Strain as the third.

Extremely detailed and informative, but a little dated as one would expect from a 50 year old textbook. Would be interesting if they would release a new edition.
