Morgenthal & Co. is a Goldman Sachs insider's multi-generational story of the rise of a New York investment banking firm that was small and private in the 1970s to one of the complicated megaliths that almost brought down the economy in 2008. The historical backdrop is real and penetrating for those who want to better understand modern finance.
Better than its cover that's for sure. Interesting and compelling financial history of the modern US that is able to take on many subjects in a new way due to the fictional angle. The stunted and meandering writing of subjects unrelated to the central financial plots slow the plot enough to forcé me to drop a star, particularly given the book's hefty length.
