At Night He Remembers traces the life of Jacob from his coming to Christ as a young lieutenant in Vietnam, through his years as a college professor, campus minister, and, at last, an old man agonizing over whether his life was fruitful for God. This book will encourage and challenge all believers who desire to serve the Lord and say at the end of their lives, "Father, I have accomplished the work you sent me to do!"
This book captures the highs and lows of a minister's life with great honesty and transparency. I'd especially recommend this book to anyone with an interest in serving God, but I also think a non-religious/non-spiritual person would find it interesting.
The way we learn through the experiences of the main character is really unique and engaging. Each scenario and person in the book represent life lessons the author has learned throughout his years of ministry. I don't know if I've ever read anything like it. I'd describe it as historical fiction. I really liked it! There were times I couldn't put it down!
Section 1 shows Jacob's introduction to the gospel & Christianity. In section 2 we watch as Jacob navigates Christian ministry and culture and how God's truth sets him free. Jacob learns that love is the key to good ministry in section 3. And in section 4 we get an honest look at Jacob in his old age wrestling with the profound question, "Have I done what You wanted me to do, God?". There are also many mini life/ministry lessons along the way like seeing Jacob get distracted & the benefit of getting to know people deeply to help them with life issues and much more.
