This book may feel a bit dated for 2024 and is fairly straightforward, but I still gave it five stars because it provides an excellent foundation for anyone in the insurance business. Troy, a well-respected industry expert, offers a blueprint for building a highly successful agency, as demonstrated by his own achievements. One standout concept is the role of an Agency Contact Representative, which can be a true game-changer. Whether you’re new to the field or looking for fresh inspiration for your agency, this book is well worth the read.
The ideas in the book are obvious, but a good reminder of what is needed to run a successful insurance agency. The book was written in 1997, therefore it doesn’t include the impact of the internet on marketing. I can only recall one mention of the internet and it was only briefly. The only suggestion about the use of technology is to use an “electronic” calendar.
Know that the ideas are antiquated in this book, but can be adapted to this day and age.
A third of this book focuses on how to run an office, which is essential to running an agency. Now running an agency does involve office management, but this should have been more of part of the appendix than the majority of the book. Many agents are looking for how to manage clients, prospecting, etc.
What a great book! Highly recommended for anyone who is considering going into their own agency. He has a lot of great ideas. No need to re-invent the wheel right?
