No One Can Stop Me But Me is a real-life rags-to-riches story that shows anything is possible if we just believe in ourselves.
As a teenager, businesswoman Jennifer Hernandez fell into a life of rebellion—drugs, sex, gangs, fights, school dropouts, pregnancy, and stints in and out of psych hospitals.
How did she turn this around, becoming an iconic mortgage loan officer and sought-after life coach? In No One Can Stop Me But Me, Jennifer takes us on an unforgettable journey, from childhood trauma and reckless adolescence to breaking through barriers she could never have dreamed of.
The Chicago-born girl seemed to be living a perfect life as the daughter of balloon vendors with a traveling carnival. Jennifer spent her days whirling on carnival rides with her brother until her parents’ sudden divorce. Feeling alone and having no one to talk to, Jennifer began looking for love in all the wrong places and her life started spiraling out of control. Yet through this dark and troubling time, Jennifer was saved by motherhood and managed to pull herself together and find a way out.
She is now in the top 1% of real estate lenders in the country, proof that desperation is the mother of invention, that your inner strength and focus is the true secret to success. You are the only one limiting yourself. When you stop holding yourself back, you can truly become the best version of yourself—the person you were meant to be.
Author Jennifer Hernandez does a deep dive into her life and produces a book that is filled with much physical and emotional turmoil for the majority of her life. However, she has an inner desire to be better and once she becomes pregnant at age 19 she desperately tries to turn her life around and eventually makes it. It will be a shocking book for many, but it details her life from when her parents divorced when she was 4, and was a single parent child living with her mother, until her mother moved out of state and she went to live with her father. A series of disastrous choices brought her to a life of alcohol, drugs and sex. Back and forth with the same bad relationships and little or no concern for rules or morality. As I said it took a while but eventually she turned her life around. A good self-help, motivational book which shows that a single lady can overcome adversity to eventually achieve a good life, and is able to bring up her children in a much better environment than she had as a child. Lots of unanswered question but nonetheless an interesting look at her success story.
What an inspiration this story is especially for young girls who feel the same way that Jennifer did. The odds were truly against her but she was bound and determined to change her life. Most young girls go through trials and tribulations and are overwhelmed by the feelings they are having and the confusion they do not understand. Jennifer took the bull by the horns and changed her whole way of thinking. So happy for her success story and others reading this book will take the leap of Faith that she did and be able to be as successful as she is. Godspeed Jennifer to a job well done.
𝐍𝐨 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐌𝐞 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐌𝐞 is a raw, vulnerable and inspiring story on Jennifer’s journey overcoming drugs, rebellion, school dropouts and getting pregnant at nineteen. She had her own demons and struggles but eventually she found the strength and determination to overcome them.
I highly recommend reading this book on self-discovery and empowerment. This story truly shows if you believe in yourself you can achieve anything you want in life!
I laughed. I cried. It’s raw. An interesting & eye opening look into divorce from a child’s point of view. How our actions can impact our children. In all different ways & the lasting effects they can have. Broke my heart. Long review short…. I can’t wait for the second book.
Very inspiring story. Everyone has a story and it’s always amazing to read the breakthroughs. She did it and I’m sure her family is beyond proud and inspired themselves!
As a teenager, Jennifer Hernandez fell into a life of rebellion—drugs, sex, gangs, fights, school dropouts, pregnancy, and stints in and out of psych hospitals. Jennifer takes readers on an unforgettable journey, from childhood trauma and reckless adolescence to breaking through barriers. Jennifer's family life was shattered by her parents’ sudden divorce when she was about 4 years old. Soon after the divorce, her mother began a new relationship with a man who was unstable, abusive and had signs of mental illness. After moving in with her dad full time in her early teens, she realized that he knew how to be a fun dad, but not necessarily a supportive parental figure. Feeling alone and having no one to talk to, Jennifer began looking for love in all the wrong places and her life started spiraling out of control. Yet through this dark and troubling time, Jennifer was saved by motherhood and managed to pull herself together and find a way out.
My thoughts: Despite sharing the many traumatic and difficult experiences she had in her teen years, Jennifer's writing is fairly light, always coming back to what she learned from the experience and how she has made sense of these experiences now that she can look back at them as an adult. I think her writing style choices were purposeful in that she wanted this story to be motivational and empowering, that being said, I would have liked to see a little bit more depth and emotion. I also found it a bit confusing at times mainly related to some chronological errors and some limited descriptions. It is a very interesting story, but I think some sections could have been expanded on to help the reader follow along.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this book!
