Instinctive Parenting Is Easier Than You Think Childrearing is simple, satisfying, and above all, fun! Don't Panic! returns confidence to parents and assures them that parenting is not unduly complicated. It's not child development professionals, psychologists, or parenting specialists who know best how to bring up children, but the parents themselves. Their instincts are better than any expertise and their love far more powerful than any mercenary motivation. Rather than a problematical skill understood by professionals, childrearing is an act of love best done by amateurs.
This is a very fun and entertaining read, far different from most parenting books I've come across. I enjoy the author's take on raising children with love, trust, and respect. She focuses on enjoying your children. She also covers discipline in a kind and fair manner.
The only things I didn't like were her anti-technology and anti-psychotherapy attitude (two things which have made my life better), and the focus on Christianity. However, she doesn't harp on any of these things too much, so it wasn't enough for me to find insulting.
I didn't agree with every point she made, but her general philosophy jibes with the parent I'd like to be, and gave me many good ideas on how to handle the future. It reassured me that others think the way I do, and that children raised this way have happy childhoods.
