The Ripa Pannonica in Hungary

Rate this book
Visy decided that the fastest and most comprehensive method to map the chain of known military stations of the Roman frontier defense of Pannonia, the ripa Pannonica , was aerial archaeological photography. He describes them, limiting himself narrowly to military sites, such as different kinds of fortification, watchtowers, legionary camps, and the limes -roads connecting them. He excludes details of construction, and in most cases the military history of the site, in order to provide a succinct overview. The last 100 pages are the photographs themselves, which he has collected from various archives, and other illustrations. There is no index. Distributed in the US by ISBS.
