Home alone one cold October night, nine-year-old Bud Black is subjected to a horror straight from the bowels of hell. The Red-Eyed Man. It enters his bedroom and leaves the child a terrible present. As the years go by, Buddy boy endures nightmares of that horrid night and more. Seventeen years old now, he's convinced they are visions of a dark future. Of the Red-Eyed Man's return. And a viral maelstrom which will sweep across the land, bringing death, destruction, and untold terror. Along with his three best friends, The Creeps, as they're known around the island town of Moon, for their love of "All Things Horror", Bud prepares for the Red-Eyed Man's return. Thanks to his prescient dreams, Buddy boy knows how to save his loved ones from its Second Coming. How to outlast the rabid plague that comes with It. He just doesn't know if he can save himself...
Do not be put off with the size of the book because the story it holds is absolutely amazing. You easily get thrown into this world and the characters become your own family. The writing pulls you in to way where you are able to feel the terror and sadness that the characters are feeling. Once I started this book I was sucked into it and could not put it down. So if you love horror and are ready for the ride of your life I highly recommend this book
Funny, the description I got from Goodreads was not at all the one I got from the author's page on Amazon. This book must have recently been revised dramatically from the original version that's still on Goodreads. Anyway, fantastic book! Long, to be sure. Don't bother with it if you're into the whole brevity thing, as Jeff Lebowski would say. The paperback version was a solid 500 pages. Think Stephen King's Stand. In both length and character development. Subject matter too. But seriously, what a great read. Would make an awesome series on Netflix! I seriously hope there's a sequel.
This was one of the best books I have read, ever! I was immediately pulled in, with the beginning backstory, and it just off. I will admit, it was a tad long, ok a whole lot long, but I never found myself bored or skipping forward, not once! I would recommend this book to anyone. The sort of similarities to Stand By Me was so touching and sweet. It was nice to read about kids who are actually really GOOD kids, even with their home situations being what they are. I LOVED IT!
