CVV offers extraordinary reportage of 20thC life,
manners, culture. (Big bio in the works). Pre WW1,
he was the first dance critic on NYT. This selection
of historic essays covers Pavlova, Isadora, Loie
Fuller. He was at the 1913 preem of "Rite of Spring."
Along w Theophile Gautier, he believed that "ballet is
music that one can see." This book includes salutes
to Stravinsky and Delibes.

Arlene Croce wrote that his standards "were the highest and
his descriptions of Nijinksy's performances are matchless."
Dance, music, drama -- CVV was there. Along w seven
engaging novels, he also recorded the century with
memorable photographs of artists, actors, dancers.
