With my firstborn, I breastfed him exclusively. However, weaning was a problem. I agree with mom's milk. Neither mill substitute can compare.
The Contented Little Baby Book of weaning gave me the necessary knowledge on weaning. This book gave so many insights on how to manage babies so both parents and a baby, sides would be contented.
I gained a lot of wisdom as a mom, and I would recommend Gina's Ford books not only for new parents but to all people who work with children.
I find this book a great helper to moms because of its efficient advice. What to do first give solid? Or breastfeeding? When to top up with formula? How slightly wean into solids. Thank you, Gina; your book helped to cope.
Additionally, I can say that when the time comes, I will be reading the next Ginas Ford book about potty training.

I got this book to help me to understand the weaning process as I plan to wean my baby at 6 months per the DoH guidelines, however did not find this book very helpful at all. Although it acknowledges the advice that you should wait until 6 months, it quickly becomes clear that the author believes you should wean earlier as lots of advice is given on early weaning with just a brief acknowledgement of what to do if you are waiting. Also this book is only really helpful if you have already read the other books by Gina Ford (which I haven’t) and you are following her feeding schedule (which I am not) as all the guidance is set around her prescribed feeding times.

Probably a great book for any one following Gina Fords other books but not great otherwise.

To add, I did generally follow this with my daughter and she is a good eater who pretty much eats everything at 1 year and 4 months. Just don't be discouraged if your baby isn't the perfect model baby of the book. Every baby is so different and they go through things. We would sometimes struggle with our daughter on some days but we perservered and now she eats well. Babies don't have manuals but we can do with all the advice we can get ;)

Worked fantastic with my daughter. Make sure to read all the intro, don't try to shortcut and only read the schedules...

I only started this book, and i had to stop it. The writing is bland, and it doesn't make me want to know more about the subject.
And like somebody else was saying, it makes it look like it is promoting starting earlier than 6 months - while it only mentions the steps or the checks that baby needs to mark to be ready (be able to sit, be able to bring food to mouth, show interest in food).
The nail in the proverbial coffin was when she said, "Don't give babies sugar [which is a good advice] because they will get addicted to sweets." The last part is nonsense!
While her first pages basically shamed mothers that don't breastfeed, the author should know that breastfeeding milk is sweet. So, baby is already accustomed to sweet things. One of the first foods to baby wean is sweet potato (again, sweet). My final point is that baby doesn't crave something it never had - sweets.

Being a fan of there sleep guide book (which is packed with info), I find the weaning guide a bit too watered down. I hope to see more information on foods and nutrition. Also, being an asian, the amount to feed my new born was WAY TOO MUCH. I had to cut about 50% of her recommended intake. But I'm glad I picked this book up ;) Helped me a lot through the very confusing transition.

Following on from The Contented Little Baby Book, this one follows the same routine but explains baby eating habits, what to feed and when to give it. I found most of the recipes easy to make and my baby didn't really fuss too much (yet) some of the meals have actually become family favourites.

I really liked the information about making your own baby food and all the recipes. I didn't really follow her feeding schedule though as I already had my own less strict schedule that I liked.

I loved this book, being a first time mum...it helped me understand the basics. I used this book with my first son and it worked like a charm. He is now 2 and eats like a champion!
