Review:
When I got this book: A 216 pages long book seemed quite effective by its physical appearance. Decent fonts, nice gauge of cover and pages makes it delightful to read and touch. As I think that these all the factors need effective expertise and need to be considered.
On the cover, a doodle of a lady in sunglasses with armband depicting sale on it was quite relevant to the title.
As soon as I finished scrutinizing the facade of book I immediately searched for the blurb at the back cover but all I got a number of remarks (obviously the good ones) about book from the various responsible persons of society. But I strongly think that blurb is important it need to be mentioned. But at the same time, from the eye of publisher, title was sufficiently explanatory for the story.
When I started this book: I was stunned. The way writer pick the story was so gripping that at the end of each chapter I excitedly thought ‘what next?’. Adding to that, the description and detailing was so fine that it unexpectedly made me remember the last thriller I read ‘The winner stand alone’ by Paulo Coelho. Now I undeniably think that was the one of the best onset I ever read in thrillers.
When I was at the middle of book: Introduction of Deepali was making it more interesting. One could not easily predict where it would proceed. Though I admit that story was going at good pace. But as matter of fact I was expecting it more noir as author picked a very sensitive and scope full theme that she could make it more stirring.
When I was at the end of book: My reading speed had been drastically increased as it always happens when you read a decent book. Counselling Sessions were the highlights of the book. They were actually stroking the core, the spirit of book which were till now were partially touched. The session about sacred feminism was mesmerizing and was complimenting the theme.
Final words: “The greatest sin is apathy- to witness an injustice and not to do anything about it. Hence, I commend the writer for having the gumption to pick up her pen in the cause of woman.” –Ayodhya Nath Pathak, Former Director General of Police, MP
I took these words from one of the remark about the book. I too back this up. I sincerely think writer has right and duty to expose the dirtiest and darkest truth of so called civilized society. Mallika, here, takes the responsibility and creates this stirring and bona fide book with strong storyline and suitable style.

Book Review: I Am A Woman And I Am On Sale by Mallika Nawal: A Bold Slap On Moral Bankruptcy

I'm A Woman & I'm On Sale by Mallika Nawal is first of the trilogy series "I'm a Woman". It can be stated as a bold and blunt reality on what a woman has to face in all fronts of her life in out male dominant heartless society where a woman is just a material for a male with just one motive in mind - get the best out of it to the maximum extent and the moment it starts raising a voice against any injustice against her, beat her, suppress her, harass her, insult her, and if still she has some oxygen left in her, omit her from the page of society by any measure.

A sincere and bold effort to expose our society, though in a fiction story, but which is not too far from the reality of life, is the story of I'm A Woman & I'm On Sale. This is what is happening all around in the society where women with any name, stature, shape and role in society, have a large extent of Maya in them who has to keep struggling against the devil of the society and male chauvinism. Maya is the lead character of I'm A Woman & I'm On Sale by Mallika Nawal, who remains as the center point of story throughout 214 pages and 26 chapters of this soul probing and intriguing story written in an excellent manner.

Jograj is a powerful entity on political front who is running a corporate and is a totally spoiled character with money and power - both on his side. Like Bobby, Simi, and many more, Jograj tried to play with Maya after offering her a job in his company. Maya, when refused to play as per Jograj's whims and fancies, had to face a false blame against her for which she was being told to leave her job with immediate effect. Maya didn't give up so easily and decided to challenge Jograj in the court of law for which a young, dynamic, successful and brave lawyer Harsh Jalan comes forward. He also makes Maya meet his college friend turned psychologist to probe and identify some hardcore realities of Maya's early years.

A dirty game played by Jograj to weaken Maya's presentation in court, Harsh's moving out of the case by bending down to the power game of Jograj, Maya's case getting different twists and turns, a murder (or death) happening in between of an inmate of Maya's office, some secrets revelations by Deepali related to Maya's childhood and all those years and a lot more to get delved into to find out the crux of this interesting story.

That single #hashtag should be more than enough to put everything in perspective right?

Mallika Nawal has entered the novel industry with quite a bang, and with an acumen that not only enthralls you, but makes you question the society and its rules that we live in. As an author, the important aspect is not just the story, but also the details that in the end make all the difference between a knowledgeable author and the others. And here, the author gets it bang on.

The novel follows the story about a woman who in all her ways is out of the world, but there are some dark struggles in her life that is not shown to the world. Overall, I have nothing more to say than that it was an interesting experience, where I wanted to put the book down because it showed the world for what it is without a single speck of embellishment (and people like to turn a blind eye to such things), and on the other hand I just could not put this in the backburner, not without knowing what happens.

Verdict : A must read, from an upcoming author, who I hope to see more of in the coming years.

The innovative and different title, being a trilogy, debutante author and a thriller really raised the bar of expectations for me. I expected it to be a real mind bursting novel.

It started pretty well. The depth of description in her writing really impressed me. She described each and every thing to perfection. The character detailing, thought process of characters over a event and dialogues kept me glued with the novel. The character of Maya is the one which is difficult to express in words. It would take really hard to make the readers believe that this kind of character can exist and Mallika had done a fabulous job. Maya thinks differently. She lives in her own world. As the story advances, she unfolds the truth of society, the evil truth of society in which we live and call ourselves social animals. The innocence of a child in the talks of an adult was the task which the author had to perform through the character of Maya.

Now coming on the other characters. Harsh looked promising but he losses his presence in the story very soon. Jograj seemed to be interesting but he too disappears as the story advances. Deepali was the only character which remained till the end with Maya but she had nothing to do in the story-line.

Coming to the overall story. It started of well as a thriller but then losses its grip altogether till the end of it. But as it is a trilogy, I hope that other two compensate this loss. It is now mandatory for the author to focus on the thrill and ‘wow’ portions in the coming parts of the series.

I enjoyed reading the story, and look forward to its sequel. What I liked in the book is a very good pace. It had enough in it to keep me engaged and interested in turning the pages. The language, in general, is simple and lucid. I can tell that a lot of research has been done to bring authenticity to the court proceedings and dialogues etc.
