It’s 2012 and a hedge fund has bet billions on Greek bonds, playing for big profits on a European Union bail-out. But massive street riots in Athens threaten the windfall. This book was won as part of a Good Reads competition. The concept of this book is intriguing but the writing of this book is disappointing. It is overloaded with technical language that the reader would have difficulty understanding. I barely could and I have had some training in economics. The inclusion of photographs detracted from the storyline and luckily their inclusion was limited. The main character was unique and was the only part of the novel I really enjoyed. Overall, the author lacked sophistication in executing a great story line. Fundamentally the author needs to work on developing suspense, picking up the pace and making the twists and turns more suspenseful.
I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway. I really enjoyed this book. It blended parallel storylines of the high paced world of international politics and financial markets and the very human world of romance intrigue and relationship - coming together in the backdrop of Paris (culture, history and location) and the emerging magic between passionate willing hearts. I enjoyed the dichotomy and tension the emerged, flowered. It allowed the reader a glimpse into this most lofty and hidden of worlds that plays out surrounded by the everyday man oblivious to the complexity and chaos that swirls around. It grounds the notion that the heart rules and the constructed ultimately serves.
I found this very interesting, exciting, and romantic. I also felt like it gave an insight to the investment stocks and bonds industry in a way that was easily understandable. It has French charm and romance intertwined with a feeling of extravagance and elegance. I will recommend this to my family and friends.
