Michael is clean. He is clean of drugs, clean of drink, clean of people. Clean of his wife and two daughters. Clean and clear and free. That’s about all there is to him, really. He is living in Barcelona for no particular reason beyond the fact that people have told him it is a great city. He gets by, concentrating on being clean, and once you’re clean the question is - what next? While sitting outside a café trying to come up with an answer, a woman who asks to sit with him. Her name is the name of his wife. She tells him that he is needed far away.
His journey begins; and first he has to get rid of his own world, his own culture. He is selected, but that isn’t quite as special as he’d hoped.
The journey takes him to another planet where life forms he finds revolting, and which find him in turn repulsive, are being destroyed by beings far more familiar.
