An idiot, alcoholic rapist with a sadistic sex drive, a voluptuous abused wife, a twisted hellfire preacher, a mute prostitute and her dwarf sister are just some of the lurid and grotesque characters in STREETS?PAVED?WITH?GOLD, a violent blast?of pulp southern gothic. First published in 1958, STREETS?PAVED?WITH?GOLD?was filmed under the title MUDHONEY by Russ Meyer in 1965, resulting in an early classic of the "roughie" genre.
A very good Southern Gothic that seems to have fallen down the memory hole despite being the basis for Russ Meyer's film Mudhoney. The ebook, which seems to be the only way to read it at this point (I couldn't find a physical copy anywhere) is riddled with typos and formatting errors. I also suspect the ebook creator didn't have any actual rights to the book.
Worth reading and hopefully a better ebook or reprint will eventually come about.
