The Ideal of Equality

Rate this book
One of the central debates within contemporary Anglo-American political philosophy concerns how to formulate an egalitarian theory of distributive justice which gives coherent expression to egalitarian convictions and withstands the most powerful anti-egalitarian objections. This book brings together many of the key contributions to that debate by some of the world's leading political Richard Arneson, G.A. Cohen, Ronald Dworkin, Thomas Nagel, Derek Parfit, John Rawls, T.M. Scanlon, and Larry Temkin.

All the greatest minds on Egalitarian Justice in one thin book - as exciting as it gets for political theory fiends. Very well written introduction by Clayton and Williams, a good hack for political philosophy students...

A clear winner to the intrinsic value debate in Temkin I think, although some parts of his essay are a bit obscure.

Great collection of essays on different versions of egalitarianism. I'm especially fond of the essays by Parfit ("Equality of Priority") and Dworkin ("Justice in the Distribution of Health Care"). I highly recommend this to anyone interested in Political Philosophy or especially if they dig on Rawls.
