Prescription for Love

Rate this book
The Kingsley Series is a series of stand-alone contemporary women’s fiction romance novels, each connected to the next by the bonds of family. Each book in this series follows the personal journey of one of the Kingsley couples – however, each story is continued and updated in the following book. These books can be read in any order, but are best enjoyed in order of publication. This series contains mild sexual content. Prescription For Love is the second book in the Cameron Kingsley is jaded; a traumatic event from her past is still haunting her, and even running her own wedding planning business isn’t enough to make her believe in love that lasts. She spends her days choosing flowers and china settings with serial brides who marry serial grooms, and she spends her evenings locked in a cycle of flashbacks and panic attacks. But a family wedding changes everything; a request from her brother’s fiancé sends Cameron to the office of sexy Mackenzie Caswell, who might be just the man to help her see things in a new light. Mac is a widower and a single dad who still treasures the memory of his deceased wife and loves nothing more than his young son. A man with heavy baggage, he’s been walked away from more times than he cares to count, and he’s ready to try one more time. But who is the one with the heavier burden – Cameron, or Mac? And will they be able to help each other shoulder the weight of moving on?

I’ve been watching author Brandi Kennedy’s writing career very carefully since she wrote To Love a Selkie. Her second book Fat Chance cemented her firmly in place as my favourite contemporary romance writer. And now she has done it again. Prescription for Love is the second book in her Kingsley Series. The Kingsley’s are a large family with Eva and Adam heading the family. They have five children ranging in age from 30-19. The eldest of these children is Cameron Kingsley, and Prescription for Love is her story.

We’re introduced to the beautiful yet cynical Cameron—a thirty-year-old wedding planner who doesn’t believe in love. Hard to believe, right? Cameron is still suffering with the trauma she endured when she was in college. Mentally and physically scarred from the ordeal, she finds it hard to trust people—especially men.

Asked to plan her little brother Drew’s wedding to Cassaundra, Cameron is more than happy to help until Cass asks her to invite one final person, insisting she hand deliver the invitation herself. Unable to say no to the request, Cameron finds herself facing perhaps the only man who can break through her hard, guarded exterior.

Mackenzie Caswell is a widower with one young son to raise on his own. Not a stranger to the dating scene, he is overly cautious about mentioning his son or his dead wife to his dates as they tend to pick up and run at the mention of either. But Cameron is different. Somehow on their first date, she makes him open up about both of those topics, even challenging him to call her the next day to see if she was still interested in him. I loved the flirtatious banter and easy conversation between these two characters. It seems so natural for both of them, but their journey is not always a happy one.

We follow Cameron and Mac through their relationship where Mac finds out about Cameron’s dark past, and helps her find closure. We see Cameron opening up and learning to trust again, learning to love. Prescription for Love is a story about getting hurt, but still having the guts to keep going. It’s about betrayal and grief, love and trust. It’s about finding out who you really are and what you really want and going for it even if it terrifies you.

I look forward to reading future books from Brandi Kennedy.

Prescription For Love was beautiful, touching, inspiring, romantic, funny and sweet. Gahhhhh. It was just perfect.

I didn't think there was any way I could love Cameron & Mac as much as I loved Cass & Drew from Fat Chance. Boy oh boy, was I wrong! I have determined that Ms Kennedy just has the words that flow over you and has you connecting with the characters, their thoughts, fears and insecurities.
"...I miss the scent of a woman beside me, the feel of fragile fingers laced with mine. So I've been looking Cameron, whether you are or not. And I see you, I see beauty and vulnerability, and I see yearning..."

Cameron hasn't recovered from an attack of the very worst kind that happened 10 years ago. She's jaded from planning weddings (over and over again for some people - and not to the same spouse!) & doubts people's ability to truly love in a permanent capacity. When she's asked to plan her brother Drew & Cass's wedding *squeeeeeeeee* so many emotions and desires rear their head and make themselves known to her. Cameron does want her own happy ever after, after all.
"I just get so sick of people looking at me and seeing a victim. God, I get so sick of looking at myself and seeing a victim."

We met the main man Mac in book one. Cass's old therapist. He's sensitive, sweet, and feels an instant connection with Cameron he just can't ignore. Good golly this man is sexy. In all kinds of ways. Life hasn't been kind to him either as he wades through life a widower and single father. What a great dad and a wonderful supportive intuitive man. I love his banter & often found myself just smiling at him. And Logan, oh Logan, I SO loved him.
"...You and me, we're a team, you know?"
"Yeah dad, I remember. Team Caswell. And I'm the star, and you're the old guy."
"Uh, no. I'm the star. You're just the little guy who gets to travel along in my duffel bag."
"Yeah right, Dad. I make this team cool. I bet I can even make Cameron think so."

These two have much to overcome if a happy ever after is going to be theirs. Compromises, considerations, a 9 year old boy to convince & breaking down a 10 year old wall that has Cam freaking at any physical contact. A journey that makes me laugh, cry & swoon.
"What if I can't be fixed?" Cameron asked.
"What if you aren't broken?" He answered.

What else can I tell you? The Kingsley family is delightful. I want to invite them over for a BBQ and hang out. So fun, honest, refreshing and loving. And the wedding *sighhhh* I could picture it in all its glory and it was stunning. Cass on her wedding day in her lingerie *fans myself*, the vows *massive sniff* and learning about Cam's demons & overcoming her fears was breathtaking. The sexy times were hot, but not crude. Perfect.
"I'm really, really okay. He's good to me, and patient, and - -"
"Gentle? Sexy? Tender? Does he whisper sweet nothings? Your father always- -"
"Mom! Please don't tell me what dad does," Cameron hissed.

This book was beautiful. It was focused on love, family & learning to trust. The characters were well developed and easy to connect to, and the writing was superb. The descriptions didn't make my eyes bleed, just drew beautiful pictures in my mind.
"...why can't we all just look in the mirror and get happy with what's looking back?"

Ms Kennedy continues to blow my tiny mind every time I read something she puts her name to. Her books stand out from the rest for me. They move me on a personal level. Bravo & thankyou ❤

Another beautiful story about a woman learning to love and trust. After a traumatic event in her college years, Cameron Kingsley develops serious trust issues. But, when she is all but forced into the company of a man who has had a traumatic past of his own, she learns that all people aren't the same.

Prescription for Love is the second book in Brandi Kennedy’s Kingsley series and it was a hard one to read … it was exceptional but hard … hard as painful, as haunting, as an emotionally draining …
This is the story of Cameron and Mac, we met both of them in the first book. Mac was Cassie’s therapist and Cameron was Drew’s older sister (Cassie’s fiancée). It is a beautifully written story of a woman re-learning to love and trust, it is also a story of a man taking another chance on love … They both have their own demons and who are we to judge whose are worse... . we are along on their journey and I could not have imagined it better than how Ms Kennedy wrote it! I cannot wait to read the next Kingsley book!

This book was amazing, showing what it's like to go through trauma and PTSD and then grow from that. As someone who has PTSD it felt so empowering to watch her grow into a relationship and have healthy conversation between her and her partner. Even though this book isn't about Cass (the lead from Book 1) we still got to see a continuation of her relationship, while still getting a whole new story! And Logan stole my heart the moment he was introduced and is definitely one of my favorite characters!! Very good read!!

Prescription for Love was book 2 in the Kingsley Series by Brandi Kennedy. It was excellent and drew you in right from the beginning and held you all the way through the end.
Cameron, despite her distaste for marriage, owns the town’s wedding planning business. She’s seen the same people come and go through her business which has made her cynical yet her parents have a great marriage so you would think that would mellow her out…but no. When she’s set up by her sisters to meet a new man, will he be all he seems? Will she keep him or will her cynicism get in her way?
This book 2 was even better than book 1 and I didn’t think that was possible. Ms. Kennedy writes in a manner that you are made to feel like the main character and move through the story with her seamlessly. I really enjoyed this book as it hit home a little for me. I was sucked in and had a hard time putting it down. Can’t wait to move on to book 3.

Despite its cover, Ms. Brandi Kennedy's series is smart, funny, realistic, and just a little slow, but entertaining at the very end.
