Beautiful Alaska--a peaceful, natural land where you know your neighbors and don't have to lock your doors. For most people, it's the perfect place to experience nature; for Robert Hansen, it was the perfect place for murder. "Between 1980 and 1983, Hansen went on a murderous rampage killing between 17 and 37 women in the Anchorage, Alaska area. Hansen, a small-business owner and pillar of the community, was also an avid hunter, and used young girls as prey when he decided he needed a more challenging hunt. This book is the gripping account of the hunt and eventual capture of an unlikely killer, who almost got away with it.
A super-short summary of Bob Hansen's murders. The great virtue of this book is that it gives names of possible, not just known victims and tells you what made the detectives suspect even more than that. The clumsy writing held me back from really enjoying reading this -- my favorite moment came when I read that the killer has "bipolar defective disorder" -- and overall this book does not really stack up to the others on this case.
I knew the general story and had seen the movie before reading this book and was hoping for more of the story. Well written, however a little disappointed that it was more of a summary and hypothesis rather than an in depth viewpoint.
Chilling story about Alaska's first known serial killer. As a resident of Alaska in the 80's, I remember the newspaper articles about this man, and may have been a patron of his bakery as well. It was interesting - and chilling - to read the details of these cold blooded killings and the man who committed them. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys true crime stories.
Interesting read, but short and lacks depth/detail
Short book summarizing the horrific acts of serial killer Robert Hansen. Interesting read, lacks detail. Would have liked to hear about interviews from those who knew this monster, and more of the legal proceedings.
