Designing and Building an Elegant and Strong Foundation for Lasting Love
Chicago is a city that Brooke Anderson, the beautifully curvy and confident woman, loves. A recent graduate with a MA in Architecture, she’s ready to start her life. And, while in Chicago, she had also fallen in love with big city life—especially with the beautiful buildings of the previous century that graced the Chicago skyline.
But, once her graduate school boyfriend decided that she was not “the one,” the couple parted ways. And now that he and his new love are staying in Chicago, she is leaving the city that she loves for a new start in life and love. So, she is ready to start the next stage of life somewhere other than her beloved Chicago.
So, when seeking a new life in a new place, the brown-eyed woman with long, thick dark hair looked towards the East Coast and to New York City as her destination for her new start. New York City’s skyline, like Chicago’s, was still graced by beautiful architecture of a previous era. However, while many gems were being overshadowed by more modern monoliths, the jewels of a previous building era were still present.
And, when she was able to snag a job with a property development firm, one of the nation’s most elite architectural and construction enterprises, West Inc, she headed east. With offices in New York and California, each location had its own staff and team of skilled architects. So, she had been thrilled to submit her application and credentials for employment—surely in such a large firm, there would a place for a newly minted architect.
The one great disappointment came when she wasn’t hired as an architect, even at the most junior level. She was offered, and had accepted, a position as PA to the CEO while his personal assistant was out on paternity leave. And, with the job came the opportunity to assume the PA’s apartment until his return. But, what the hearing impaired, middle-aged PA never mentioned when pitching the apartment was that the upstairs neighbor in the penthouse apartment had an irritating and intrusive penchant for playing music deep into night, blowing past the midnight hour and continuing to allow his guitar music to wail into the early hours of the next day. So, when the new tenant anticipating her first day on the job gathered her nerve and took the elevator up one floor to confront the guitar loving penthouse tenant.
And, as one with an eye trained to appreciate beauty and structural efficiency and style, Brooke’s breath was taken by the man who opened the door to his irate lower-floor neighbor. The rude, loud, inconsiderate above floor neighbor certainly meet all the criterion of beauty and structural excellence that her evaluation as an architect admired.
But, while he possessed the beauty of the gods, he had the rudeness of an underworld dweller—perhaps of the devil himself. Their encounter was brief and unsatisfactory. So, the next morning, when Brooke was taken to the door of her new boss—the CEO of the prestigious West Inc—it was with stunned eyes and fearful heart that upon walking through the CEO’s open doorway, she was greeted by none other than her rude, but breathtakingly gorgeous neighbor—her new boss, Mason West.
Roxy Reid again delightfully leads her readers through the highs and lows of love between unexpected boss and employee. I enjoyed I received an ARC of the romance, but also purchased a copy, but I would urge the author to invest in an editor who understands pronouns and when to use I vs me, or we vs us. I am voluntarily leaving a review, and look forward to the next Reid romance!
Brooke Anderson and Mason West have a rocky start when she bangs on her neighbor’s door in irritation of the loud noise. Things don’t get better when she finds he is her boss at Gates Architecture and their bickering continues. He wants her to find him a new assistant for these two months that he will be there in New York. But Brooke explained that she has spent the last two years in this company proving herself, so that when a junior architect job finally opens up, the company will trust her enough to actually take her application seriously and honestly look at her qualifications instead of handing the job to a man and dismissing her. If she has to leave now, she may not get her dream job, and using a new temp as his assistant will be useless and slow down what he has to accomplish as well.
When Mason’s mother brings a “date” for him to take to lunch and interrupts a meeting to do so, Mason realizes he needs to prevent this parental harassment. He asks for Brooke’s help pretending to be his fake fiancé for the rest of his time in New York to stop his mother’s relentless pressure about getting married. He offers her an interview for a junior architect job and $500,000. Brooke adds that Mason must attend her ex-boyfriend’s wedding while they are pretending to be engaged. In close proximity living together, it doesn’t take long for Brooke and Mason to see the real person behind their business persona and become more deeply attracted. Will this lead to an actual personal relationship? Or are they both firmly aware of the short-lasting charade.
The interactions of the characters were very enjoyable for the reader as we see them start to realize there are real feelings there. Mason is a good dad to his daughter Avery, and that means a great deal to Brooke, especially when she has a little secret to tell him soon that may make their situation more permanent. Grab your copy and find out if Brooke gets the future she was aiming for – or maybe something even better!

Faking It to Make It Real - When Brooke had the confrontation with Mason about the noise level, she never expected to discover that he was actually her new boss and that working for him would send her on a wild and wonderful journey. Mason’s life was solely about his family’s company, his parent and his daughter, so when his mother tried setting him up, he entered into a fake fiancé agreement with Brooke.
Their relationships was meant to be platonic, but living together and spending time together, led to into a complicated relationship. However, Mason’s insecurities nearly derailed their budding romance when Brooke admitted her feeling for him and he didn’t reciprocate. Mason’s actions caused Brooke to make changes in her professional and personal lives, as she had just discovered the new change that would occur in her life.
Unfortunately, Mason only realised after Brooke left that he couldn’t live without her, so he decided to do everything within his power to get her to forgive him and take him back, so they could get their chance at a happy life as a family. This truly amazing story deserves to be read by every avid romance reader, because once you start reading, you will find it difficult to take a break.

Brooke is house sitting for someone and the neighbor upstairs music is blaring at 4 in the morning and Brooke is needing to get some sleep because she is meeting her new boss in the morning and doesn’t want to be sluggish and look terrible with bags under her eyes. Deciding to confront the neighbor Brooke goes to the apartment to kindly ask whoever lives there to turn his music down. Well Mason opens the door and Brooke is like wow he’s hot but his attitude soon ruins all of that. Brooke and Mason exchange insults and it is quite hilarious. When she arrives the next morning who is her new boss none other than the arrogant neighbor from last night. Roxy did a wonderful job with this office trope. The way that Brooke and Mason met was funny but you knew that the chemistry was there and boy was it. The storyline flowed well and I loved both mc.

Brooke & Mason are off to a rocky start, when she meets the new neighbor upstairs, who's blaring his music at 3 a.m. & then learning that he is her new boss the next day. Trying to keep it professional at the office, proves to be challenging. Brooke's working hard to prove she is capable to provide new architectural ideas for old buildings. Mason & Brooke strike up a deal for a fake fiance romance but it feels more like the real deal. Life throws in some curves, challenging these two to face what they really have & what their future holds for them. A good book to read with a touching HEA.

I loved it! Brook and Mason start off annoyed with each other then she ends up as his assistant and they have to work together. He needs her help to get his mother off his back about getting married so they decide on a plan of a fake engagement. She would get her dream job and he would live in peace for two months. Their attraction for each other proves too hard to ignore. Loved how they found love together. Brook is feisty and creative. Just what this playing it safe by the rules billionaire needs. If you like this trope you’ll love this couple.

Brook and Mason have an instant attraction but dislike to each other... imagine how that plays out when it turns out Mason is Brooks new boss and her only chance to getting the architect job she has always dreamed of. A fake engagement and major attraction to each other leads them on a pTh neither thought they would be going down. Unexpected twists and a definite happily ever after endure this is an enjoyable read.

I nearly didn’t read this book because of the title, however I genuinely enjoyed it. The characters were likeable and the story was the easy to read romance I had been craving with the right amount of spice. On which a personal Thank-you for not using the word “centre” during a sex scene! The surprise (although not surprise as teased in the bio) pregnancy I found a bit wholly, a failed condom would have felt more believable and his reaction of not even questioning her about it made a failed pill seem even more unrealistic. However I was rooting for them so hard by that point it was easy to over look for a happy ending. I really enjoyed the POV change between both characters.

Their first meeting did not go well with Brooke banging on his door to turn down his music and when she finds out that he is her boss thins really turn into a battle for these two. The bickering and banter between them kept me glued to the pages to see what happens next and that's when the fake fiancé proposal lands. That proposal also starts their true path one that is filled with twists and turns that had me cheering for this couple's fake relationship to turn into the read deal.

From when they first met things were hot. It was great when they were seeing things from a different perspective the next morning. Plus his secret room just added a hint of humor that made the story really pop. Her sassy attitude and his grumpy exterior made for an interesting pair. Then add in a daughter, a mom pushing marriage and parents that aren't so bad but maybe have their own intentions and you have a story that you can't put down.

I have to say that I don't tend to read this genre, on the whole, unless it is one of Roxy Reid's. There is just something about the characters, the writing and the storiesas a whole which just seem to grab me and I really enjoy them. Mason is great, he's caring, intelligent and genuine but he has put far too much stock on being safe and trying to be perfect. I did get sooo frustrated with him (thank you David for bring there when the readers could not). Brooke was engaging, likeable and real.
This is such a sweet romance with off the wall chemistry between our rich CEO and his Architect Assistant. They start off on the wrong foot, but her feisty attitude gets under his skin and he soon is asking her to be his fake fiancé. They can’t keep their hands off each other and can’t tell what’s real and what isn’t. He is work driven with clear goals that don’t allow for change until she challenges him, and throws down her gauntlet. I was routing for them all the way , and happily satisfied when he works through all his stumbling blocks!
First meeting between Brooke and Mason is so cute. Their characters is so captivating and I love everything about them. The book is interesting, easy to read and enjoyable. There's perfect dose of angst, steam and laughter to keep turning pages. Great book by the author, I always look forward to anything from her. I recommend this book.

This was hilarious! Brooke is not like the persons Mason is used to, and their interactions become very entertaining. I like her spunk, even as she seem to be a wallflower. And grumpy Mason prove to something else, when get to know him. Love it!.

Brooke has worked hard for years to get noticed as an architect, but she keeps getting passed over. Mason's company has just bought out her firm, and Brooke is assigned as his assistant. She needs a good recommendation from him, but they get off on the wrong foot. The attraction between them can't be ignored, though, and they try to keep things casual. Guess how that will work out?
What a beautifully written romance. The characters are believable and likeable. I really wanted them to find their happy ever after. The scenes with the little girl are swoon worthy as you can't get anything sexier than a commited father. Great read!.

I loved this story from the first electric spark of the characters. I love Roxy's writing. She has a way of writing her scenes that it feels like you the reader are with them as the fly on the wall. I liked the heroine's sassiness and the boss's sexy cockiness. It was just what I need to read to escape reality.

Fantastic read, loved the way this couple met. Liked that the main heroin kept surprising the grumpy billionaire in not only her attitude, but her smarts and care factor that just blew him away. Loved that she challenged/ pushed him to think with his heart and not only with a spreadsheet.

This was probably my favorite of Roxy’s books so far. It’s predictable but cute, steamy, and fun. You can tell from the start the Mason is a really nice guy from his interactions with his daughter. I like that approach. Fun light read!.

I really enjoyed the banter between Brooke and Mason. Great story from beginning to end. A fake engagement with her boss of all people. All to stop his mom from meddling in his life. Brooke challenges him in ways no one ever has and feelings developed whether he wanted them to or not.
