What is interesting about this is most of these are not simple even if they are one block. They have template cut pieces or interesting construction to liven up the quilts.
I checked this out from the library. The big bright pictures stimulated my creativity. I had to return the book before I used it, but I definitely want to try my hand at the quilt called "Colored Candies". I'll check it out again when I'm ready to roll!
I think a better title for this book would be "updated-traditional one block quilt designs". The colors of all of these quilts are very nice and very modern. The pattens are mostly just slightly updated version of very traditional patterns. Both the authors are in their 40's and I think this book would be good for people in a similar age group or who are interested in patriotic americana. While none of these color choices are "patriotic" (No red white and blue anything) they are SO New England/German Dutch/Puritan/Americana inspired that I couldn't really stomach them.
This book has some really great photos of solid color modern quilts. They aren't exactly what I was thinking of in regards to one-block quilts, but the book has a lot of good information on how to make each quilt, along with some basic quilting how-to advice.
It seems like the days of one block quilts with a repeating pattern are long gone, but this book has managed to make them seem modern and now. There are some patterns I think are quite ugly, but others that I think would be fun to do and play around with.
Contemporary colors fuse with traditional blocks in each quilt. Total eye candy . Love the simple deconstruction of complicated looking patterns Win win combination
