I would give this book at least one and a half stars. Susan Saunders is a good writer, and overall the writing in Blizzard at Black Swan Inn seems to be of a higher grade than in most of the Bantam Skylark Choose Your Own Adventure books. The storylines are a bit longer than average, with a greater potential variety of happenings depending on one's bravery in making choices.

Randy Jones's illustrations are some of the best I've seen in any Choose Your Own Adventure book. The illustrations in this series are typically aimed at capturing the action in funny or realistic ways, but Randy Jones has gone a few steps further by creating impressive visual dimensions, and it enhances the story experience.

The plot of Blizzard at Black Swan Inn is interesting, with story branches that would be fun to read repeatedly. The backstory of how and why you are stuck during a severe blizzard at an old-fashioned inn with a group of malevolent witches in the basement isn't as tight as some of the others in the Bantam Skylark series, but this is a fun read, and I recommend it.
