The High Price I Had To Pay 2: Sentenced To 30 Years As A Non-Violent First Time Offender

Michelle Miles, a 21 year old, African American woman, who grew up in Marcy Housing Project in Brooklyn, New York. Miles lured in by her boyfriend, Stanley Burrell, tried her hand in the drug game. Through what she believed to be a promising opportunity, Miles became partners in the notorious "Burrell Organization," which became a thriving enterprise. Overnight, Miles went from "rags-to-riches." In her mind, she was living the life of her dreams.

All was well until the FEDS got wind of the operation. With the help of informants, the Burrell empire swiftly crumbled and the key players were arrested, including Miles. In the end, her role in the drug conspiracy led Miles to receive a thirty year sentence in federal prison.

Miles' story gives readers an inside view of the life of women serving hefty sentences for drug crimes, and the effects of their incarceration. This story will tell you about the rules of prosecution for drug offenders in the U.S. judicial system and make you think. Should a first time, non-violent offender, receive a thirty year sentence?

I was quite amazed at the unfortunate chain of events caused by the words of others that led to Michelle's conviction. I'm glad these stories are being shared to make us aware of what could and does happen.

It was an easy read and fast paced. I was able to complete it in two sittings.

She also included her mailing address. Her release date is November 2023, she had to serve thirty years for drug trafficking. She sees the sentence as being buried alive, like crucifixion, and feels the sentence isn't justified because it's too long. I know for even a kilo can be a seven year sentence or longer, however over a seven years time, estimated over Sixty kilos. How do you determine a sentence in drug selling and bagging with the intent to distribute?

I did like she transformed her life by working and educating herself. I pray that she will be released and be successful.

Great story of how so many young girls grow up in the hood. Michelle’s story is like so many girls in the hood. I enjoyed her story as tragic as it was. She stuck by her man and stuck to the code of the streets. In 2016, she was release by a clemency order from President Obama due to the fact that she was a first time, non violent offender. She got 360 months based on the fact that she was in love and no snitch. Thanks for telling this story. Makes you wake up and take account to the drug game and how your life can spiral out of control for a man. TvOne hosted an episode of Michelle’s story on For My Man which aired April 20, 2020. Check it out. They did a good synopsis. Read the book the second in the series. These ladies have some good stories to tell.
