The third volume in a three-volume series, A Guide to TacticalPlanning offers all managers and professionals hands-on tools theycan use to develop meaningful short-term results through tacticalplanning techniques.
As with the other volumes in this series, George Morrisey--longrecognized as a leading expert in the areas of planning andstrategic thinking--offers his insights into how planning actuallyworks in organizations.
Succinct and easy to read, the books in this series can be used inany sequence, and stand on their own as individual guides to moreeffective planning. The companion volumes include Volume One: AGuide to Strategic Thinking, and Volume Two: A Guide to Long-RangePlanning. Each draws on examples from individual departments andwork units as well as from the perspective of the totalorganization, making them useful for all types of planning at anylevel of an organization.
After reading Morrisey's guides on Strategic planning and long term planning, I was wondering how good he would be on short term, tactical planning. This one is probably the best of the books. It has excellent advice on tactical planning and setting short term goals. It is a bit longer than the other two, but still comes in at less than 100 pages, including many exhibits and other pages with no reading text. Although I read this one last in the trilogy, I would recommend that the reader start with this book and move on to the long term and strategic planning volumes later. But I would highly recommend all three volumes to business planners, despite the fact that they were written almost 25 years ago.
