Taking a look at the setting, form, and content of I and II Chronicles, J. G. McConville describes how these two often neglected books present God's purpose for his people at a crucial time in their history--the period of restoration after the Exile. Carrying forward brilliantly the pattern established by Barclay's New Testament series, The Daily Study Bible has been extended to cover the entire Old Testament as well. Invaluable for individual devotional study, for group discussion, and for classroom use, The Daily Study Bible provides a useful, reliable, and eminently readable way to discover what the Scriptures were saying then and what God is saying today.
Going into a study of Chronicles, I expected pure boredom. I thought it really would live up to it's name and simply be a listing of Israel's kings through a couple hundred years' history. Maybe I'm just a history buff/nerd, but I give plenty of credit to J.G. McConville's clear, thought-provoking, and intriguing analyses. He gives just enough background information to each king to make the chapters relevant, but knows how to stop before getting bogged down in mundane details. The sections were all broken up appropriately, and very evenly. I recommend this book to anyone wishing to better understand I and II Chronicles.
