Marcella and Teresa. Niece and aunt. Two sides of the same smart, funny, feisty - and on a collision course.Fifteen-year-old Marcella is determined not to make the mistakes of the women she knows. She's not going to be a drudge like her mother. Nor a factory girl like her sisters. And she's certainly not going to get trapped with a baby like Teresa. She's got brains and she's got looks and she's going to make something of herself ... If only it was that simple.Teresa is Marcella's biggest cheer-leader until her crazy life goes out of control. Wanting a man she shouldn't want, neglecting a son she loves beyond death, agonising about the sister (Marcella's mother) who seems to have given up on living, screwing the wrong men, drinking too much ... she's thirty-one, acts like a teenager and feels like a tart. Some Girls Will is the story of a fateful year in the lives of two irrepressible women. A year when their loyalty to each other is tested beyond endurance and they discover the real meaning of family, friendship and love.
Managed this book in one day (partly due to insane amount of bus travel I had to do across the city), so a nice easy read, but still enjoyable. My dad commented, "ugh, chick lit," when he saw it, but I wouldn't class it as that (though I would defend chick lit for what it is, as sometimes it's all I want to read!) I'd say it has a little more depth than your average chick lit book, and the plot isn't chick lit either. Yes, it's about two women, yes it has a lot to do with love and deception, but also deals with darker areas too.
