Historical Hard work and difficult circumstances are a way of life for these three pioneer women. Elizabeth gladly sets off for the newly formed Arizona Territory until she discovers the truth behind her awful arrangement. Will she ever be able to find the independence she longs for? Jenny isn't able to trust anyone after being abandoned and mistreated as a child. Will she open up her heart to romance and ultimately God? Hallie's impatient but well-meaning father sabotages her quest for a happily ever after with Jacob. Somehow she must help her father face his own demons and allow room for romance.
Carol Cox has an abiding love for history and romance, especially when it’s set in her native Southwest. As a third-generation Arizonan, she takes a keen interest in the Old West and hopes to make it live again in the hearts of her readers. A pastor’s wife, Carol lives with her husband and daughter in northern Arizona, where the deer and the antelope really do play—within view of the family’s front porch.
I started reading this book for because I enjoy Arizona History. The author did a good job of included intesting bits of history along with the struggle for placement of the territorial capitol. It went from Prescott to Tucson and back a few times. The three stories were interesting and easy to read.
This is an interesting idea of three love stories in one book that each connect to each other. I read the first one and realized I didn't like the authors writing style. More about preaching and other stuff then a romance.
I truly enjoyed Carol Cox's way of writing and will look forward to reading more of her books. In "Arizona Brides", I eagerly followed along in the lives of these 3 women who faced danger, trials, and men with evil and greedy intentions. Each of these young women sought for independence in a time when women weren't even permitted to vote. Their determination, insight and wisdom were to be admired. The title does not fit the stories as each woman only became a bride at the very end of the story. I loved how Carol fit God and our need for salvation into her stories. She also seemed to emphasize that we can talk to God and ask for His direction and help every moment of our lives. Thanks Carol for good Christian reading.
I am on chapter one. Yes...chapter one. The book is catchy. So far a husband and wife are going through tough times in the old west and he is corresponding with another lady. The book is written by a Williams, Arizona author. She uses history to surround her story. This particular story takes place in Prescott, AZ. A friend allowed me to borrow it. Apparently, alot of her ancestors are mentioned in the book. She has a fascinating history with Prescott.
Liked the vivid description of the landscape and development in the new territory during the time but didn't care much for the love at first sight stories that seemed a little shallow to me.
