I really enjoyed reading this book, as a mother of a 14 year old just starting high school it was a real eye opener and reminder of peer pressure and the drama that unfolds from being a teen. I really hated the parents in this story, I wanted to yell at them that they needed to pay more attention to their daughter and be involved with her. The mother was the worse but that was their rules they brought out the anger in me and I just wanted them to see what they were doing to their daughter or what they were allowing her to do. I think there are a lot of mothers and teens who would benefit from reading this story. I think as parents over our teens we need to put limitations on them and not try to be their friends. Our teens our confused as it is and just want to be accepted, to just fit in and that is what Tara is trying to tell us in A Butterfly in Winter. We all make mistakes, whether we learn from them or keep being stupid is the biggest difference.

This book was provided by the author in exchange for honest literary review.

I was seriously blown away by thks novel. Allison is uprooted from her small Vermont town and into big city Michigan in the middle of her freshman year of high school. From there her life beginz a rollercoaster ride of epic proportions.
She is face with peer pressure choices on huge levels. Surrounded by friends and other classmates that are having sex at 13 and 14, Allison is thrown into countless outlets of .peer pressure. These other kids seem to frown on her choice to keep her virginity intact.
As a parent of a 14 year old daughter, thks book scares the living daylights out of me! I have been long removed from the high school scene, but this book is very true to life. I am amazed that the scenes I went through as a senior are now more prevalent among 13 year olds. There is almost a desperate need for acceptance and to be considered part of the in crowd. This feeling pushes Allison and many teens like her to make decisions that se would never choose otherwise.
This story isn't sugar coated, and things don't always end up happily ever after but it is a great, well written reality check. It flows well,.with realistic scenes and situations. The characters are a motley mix of.personalities......people we all can relate to. It made the book more real nd relevant.
This is an eye opening read for.parents, one I really recommend. Talk about it with your teens it can really make a difference.

High school what a nightmare! I remember being terrified. Tara Clark did an awesome job of capturing all of those moments. All the nervousness and being terrified to make a move for fear you would do or say the wrong thing. Reading A Butterfly in Winter made all of my terrifying moments return. I felt for Allison I knew what she was going through and so wanted to help her. I believe that this story was very well written and really is quite wonderful at the same time. I think this is a great coming of age story that every teen should read just so they know they aren't alone and being different is what makes them special! This is one book that I will hold on to and read again when I least expect to.
