The second edition of Virology is an accessible introduction designed to enable students to understand the principles of virus structure, replication and genetics. The aim of this book is to help the reader appreciate the relevance of virology in the modern world, including the fields of vaccines, anti-viral drugs and cancer. There is also a chapter on prions. The second edition has been extensively revised and updated to reflect the many developments in virology and offers deeper insights into the subject. Newly-discovered viruses are discussed and there is an additional chapter on the influenza virus.
The first chapters introducing the viruses and their structures were already familiar to me, but when each virus group was represented by one virus, things started to get complicated. The cycles were a bit difficult to remember, but after practicing it a lot, I finally managed remembering them. Tomorrow is the exam, so I hope that I've done enough.
I know I'm unusual in that I read this book cover to cover as though it were a novel. literally couldn't put it down. Once again a relatively simple read (although my husband disagrees) this is a VERY informative study aid for those at MSc level 7. When I started mine this was an awesome book. Even now I still refer to it on occasion, much of the content remains correct and up to date still...but beware things in viro move quickly so be sure to check other resources too! This is a long but VERY INFORMATIVE read don't miss out on this one :)
