The editors, all of the GOES (Global Environmental Survey) Executive Committee, present the results of their project, an international survey of environmental attitudes and their impact on behavior. Among the research questions addressed by the survey are the awareness of average citizens about abstract and concrete environmental problems; the influence of culture on environmental awareness; factors influencing environmental activism; the relationship between attitudes about local environments and the global environment; correlations between education and rural-urban residence on the one hand and environmental attitudes and behavior on the other; and the influence of basic religious, political, and ideological values.
