In the 43rd Century, Commander Bren Montclare VC, is at the top of his career and has everything ever wanted after a lifetime of service to the navy. Engaged to the niece of the king and serving in a glamorous posting, he is envied by many for his good fortune. In a single evening it all comes crashing down amidst blood and terror. Losing everything, he becomes a pawn for the shadowy figures in the background controlling his fate. Kept isolated, an ultra-secret intelligence project is revealed and a new role in life is given to him... banishment to the fringes of humanity and the distant Hinterlands. Lexington is set in the same universe as The Artemis Files series of books and is a novella outlining some of the elements that occur before the first book in the series, Elysium. If you have read 'The Artemis Files' then this makes for a fun short prequel, but if you haven't read those avoid this as it might put you off what is a fun series. For me Elysium is by a long way the best book Bradley has written to-date, and I hope to see another book from him of that standard soon?

A beginning

This is a short story that is to act as a prequel to the Artemis Files. The problem I encountered was that there must have been a prequel to the prequel because we were dropped into the middle of the action. Still this shows promise and I'd like to see where it goes.
