Henry Beam Piper (1904 - 1964) was an American science fiction author. He wrote many short stories and several novels. He is best known for his extensive Terro-Human Future History series of stories and a shorter series of "Paratime" alternate history tales.

A Cold War story set in the year 1984, OPERATION R.S.V.P. was first published in the January, 1951 issue of AMAZING STORIES. The story consists of polite, but increasingly threatening diplomatic correspondence between The Union of East European Soviet Republics and the United Peoples' Republics of East Asia. Will this end in nuclear war?

Piper seems rather optimistic in most of his writings. The dates in this 1951 fixed-up novella are now really kind of funny; most people didn't even realize we were even in a full-scale World War III by 1984. These headlines all seem less fantastic nowadays than they originally did in the 1950s. I'm also sensing that there seems to be some kind of relevance or relation to Orwell's vision of the same future.

Interesting reading 📚

Due to eye issues Alexa reads to me, a novella about letters beginning written by the Russians to the Chinese and back and forth. I would recommend this novella to readers looking for something different. Enjoy reading 🔰2021 😴

Pretty funny tale about the oppressive communist regimes and how they should have fallen, although having Afghanistan as the savior was an interesting choice.
