I love these little old-fashioned stories! Young Edna faces trials and problems in her year at school. A wealthy classmate starts an exclusive club of young snobs, while Edna and her friends decide to start a Golden Rule club and show kindness to others, even those who are not kind to them. A new teacher is prickly and "unpretty," but has a hard secret at home, and when Edna and her friends find out, they spread their own happiness around.

A wonderful little story. Dear Little series is one of the popular children literature series of 20th century America.
It's a quaint little book with everything ypu expect of a book written for children. As an adult, I find myself going back to children's literature again and again, for while reading one can feel that childhood sense of wonder at things new, agony at the most trivial of things, and most ardent of affection for our loved ones. Children Literature is the perfect sort of vacation all adults are in need of.
If I were to look at it critically, the book reflects it's contemporary sensibilities with many hints of a society that is moving forward. There's passing mentions of boys cooking, and women choosing to remain unmarried - themes that many may brush aside as not suitable for an audience of 8-14, but the book touches upon these in a contextual manner giving the reader something to think about.

This book continues following the protagonist of the first book in the series after she moves out to the country with her family. It's a very sweet story and a good choice for young readers.
