Rate this book
In Gilded Age Manhattan, young widow Carole Rutherford has more money than she can ever spend. What she’s missed in life as the wife of a much older man is true passion…sex with a man young and strong enough to fulfill all her fantasies, leaving her limp with satisfaction. She fears this part of life has passed her by and she’ll never rid herself of the longings that plague her waking and dreaming hours.

Until she receives a letter from one Mr. Thomas Rose, a man who claims to have met her in the past and who writes the intriguing words:

“You are not easy to forget.”

A curious correspondence between the Carole and the mysterious Mr. Rose follows- one that soon has her visiting an odd shop in search of items no decent woman would own. After that, their letters become more and more intimate until Carole indulges in erotic acts and asks that Mr. Rose do the same and report on his experiences to her. Finally, he issues her the ultimate challenge. She is to come to him, but she must take four other lovers first.

The search for the illusive Mr. Rose takes Carole first to England, then to France, and finally to Austria as she makes a journey of sexual self-discovery. The man she finds when she finally arrives in Italy to confront Mr. Rose may be her ultimate lover or someone who’s totally forbidden.

There is not much I can say about this book that will not make the average person blush. Great read, if I can say that.

This book is for people with more erotic taste....

Not really erotic and definitely not really a romance, just a big HOT MESS ;(

I'm not sure what to call this other than a Really, really HOT MESS!! I mean what do you call a book where a woman leaves the country and proceeds to have one lame sexual encounter after another just because a stranger tells her to after corresponding in a handful of letters ? Said stranger meets her as a young boy abused by his father, comforts and encourages him and a flame in a you heart begins, but the odyssey he puts her thru to reunite them makes no sense common or otherwise..
She follows his letters to a bookstore with a hidden "adult section" where gets books and toys and uses them to learn how explore her body and writes to him about all the details... ( ok, if this does it on fine) ( but I don't wanna read about a woman feeling herself up while trying to imagine a man she's never even met is touching her,no thanks ,esp. Not 4-5 pages of it) then eventually she sets off on her sexual bucket list of 4 one night stands before she can meet her contrived lover... I say one night stands because the encounters to be just felt like items to be crossed off a list like scavenger hunt,1st a manwhore who supposedly loves a married woman but can't keep it in his pants, then a dysfunctional threesome with a m/m couple where one then can't give up his hetrosexual ways ( the encounter felt soo forced and contrived with no true fun or intimacies exchanged) not at all erotic just kinda there, even though I'm not a fan of m/m I didn't find myself bothered because just how flat and one dimensional it all seemed.... It like the next encounter felt pushed/forced into the story just cram in as many types of sex as possible.. Soo what was next ? A German narcissist of course with control issues who was molested by 4 women when he was 14 and likes to have sexual encounters in a way wasn't safe or sane and even though it wasn't forced I believe, she seems WAY TOO STUPID to call it truly consensual.. Going off with strange ( men you honestly ask now are strange just to fulfill some crazy list from a stranger ?) ( is crazy!!!) I was skimming a good bit at this point but let's just say after being locked off in his house for at least a week when she did encounter him "sexually" her was bound to something and verbally abused and cut," if you move again I will cut you" then F'ed... He was a sadist that still had the issues of from b isn't molested as a child, that encounter was just wrong on soon many levels... After wards she flees to Italy to finally see her "true love" a man she does really know or remember the boy he was when last she saw him, they have sex but things are not quite as she feels she should,he's holding back and when she finds out why... You wanna just smack them both if you haven't already!!! When he tells her all they both realize just How incredibly stupid this is all been and I'm sitting here thinking WELL DUH!!! They fight and argue and she decided as messed up and F'ed as this all is she loves him despite herself and has more here with him than she has back home and stays to marry him... The basic plot I felt was moving and touching, young woman tries to comfort a young abused boy,boy who grows to love her and the over a decade later moves heaven and earth the have her by his side to love her as he's always dreamed to, Scottish highlanders would be required to make this sexy and poignant and deeply romantic if written right. But this was a big hot mess disguised broadening her sexual horizons but in reality was just a string of sad sexual encounters she didn't always seem to need or want and I know I didn't ,Coz I'm sure I could enjoyed reading the phone book more ;(
Not erotic or romantic just a big mess and even sadder was by the end of the story, Even the MC's knew this as well..
Off to delete and hopefully get my money back!

Wow! An intensely erotic, love-driven story I couldn't put down. The Sixth Lover is a tale of self-discovery, experimentation of the erotic, and the ultimate pursuit of ever-lasting, monogamous love.

Carole Rutherford is a forty-year-old widow who has never known passion. Though she loved her deceased, much older husband, she now longs for that elusive 'something' she never had in her marriage bed. Along comes a letter from a stranger who writes that he has never been able to forget her. From the safety of distance, anonymity, and the seduction of words, Carole begins an adventure that ultimately brings her to the arms of her mystery admirer.

I was thrilled reading about a 40 year-old heroine who's on an erotic quest for love. She isn't sexually experienced in the beginning, but she is mature and has already lived a life. This comes through in her interactions with others--she feels sympathy, understanding, and approaches her experiences with just the perfect balance of emotions and physical pleasure. Carole is a woman I can relate to, even though everything else about her life is at odds with mine (wealthy, no children, oh, and alive during the turn of the 20th century). And I don't think I'd cross the world to be with a man I'd never met in person. . . though I thoroughly enjoyed the adventure through Carole!

Wow! That is all I can say about this book! It was hot, steamy, and sexy. This is definitely not your everyday romance. Although, it did have some sweetness towards the end, the whole book is about the sexcapades of a 40 year old widowed woman. It was refreshing to read about the sexual awakening of an older woman, usually romances are centered on the young. She does nab her a younger man and I liked that.

I felt myself blushing while reading this, especially in public. I was afraid that everyone could read what I was reading. Naughtiness galore! Reminded me of "sexting" in some parts but instead of texts, it was letters. It centers on her journey through six lovers, who at the request of her secret admirer, she must undertake that quest in order to meet him. It does have an instance of a scene with gay lovers, so if you are squeamish about it, don't read this book.

The majority of the story is told in her POV and then towards the end it switches between her and her final lover. So overall, it was moderately paced, and a light (but very hot) read. Rated X for sure.
