am glad I found this book from bbw sale. hopefully I will managed to collect the whole set for my son.
Easy read of how Gandhi became one of the most respected leaders in history, and how his message of non violence defeated the British colonial government. Loving this graphic novel using manga comic approach, with vibrant, full colour images throughout.
This graphic novel will appeal to upper elementary level children. Children will be attracted to the cartoon format of the novel, although the book deals with philosophical issues that are likely to normally be considered above the level of the average elementary student. Gandhi deals with very sophisticated topics and ends with the very graphic illustration depicting Gandhi’s murder. Very young children may have trouble distinguishing between fiction and reality since the book deals with a nonfiction topic, but is presented in a format that is usually reserved for comic books which are usually based on fictional events. Shelving this book in the biography section of the library will cause further confusion for children. This book is useful in teaching children about human and civil rights. Adults will need to spend time explaining the graphic novel format so that children understand that the illustrations are based on real events.
