When I read a mice story I am always comparing it to The Mouse and the Motorcycle or one of Dick King-Smith's mice books. This book did not rate as well compared to those.
I felt the author introduced too many characters; however, I did like how she included a "Cast of Characters" at the beginning of the book.
I also liked how she set up the "Table of Contents". The chapters included a little about what the chapter was about for example: Chapter One In which Misses Finch and Finicky talk to Max, and the Calicos realize their home is threatened
I felt the illustrations were a nice addition to the book.
Children would learn some sewing terms from this book and also feel for these poor creatures (the mice) whose home and lives are being threatened.
It also touches upon a problem and solution and for the mice it is "all for one and one for all". A successful plan, unity and cooperation help the mice gain their victory.
