A War Between Two Lands

Rate this book
There is a war waging within the Haitian Diaspora. An overlapping struggle of two intertwining identities. To the American, the Haitian American is simply a Haitian immigrant. To the Haitian, the Haitian American is a " Blan ". Where do we (diasporas) fit in? We try to navigate somewhere in the middle figuring out where we truly belong.

"A War Between Two Lands" sheds light on my experience as a Haitian Diaspora---the good, bad and the ugly. There are eleven chapters that reference Haiti's history (Istwa), the violence and trauma caused by the historical events and how they affect generations (Violence), the emotional and psychological war that goes on within the Haitian and Haitian American (Lagè), words of encouragement in the midst of trauma (Uprising & Survival), love letters to Haiti (Ayiti), personal experiences with/about my father (Dad), stories and poems about every day Haitian life (Lavi), stories about what it is like to grow up in a Haitian Protestant family (Family), Haitian Culture---good and bad (Kilti), the diaspora relationship with America (America), and acceptance of my identity as a Haitian American (Lapè).

"A War Between Two Lands" is a collection of thoughts, poems, and prose by Romel Sylne Jr.
