Astronauts, ghosts, slackers, superheroes and transvestites.
All these and more appear in this collection of short stories from Stephen Mellor, author of The Long Sleep and Down Among The Yla.
These nine stories collect the best of Mellor's short fiction, showing the full range and diversity of his work. Also included in this collection are extracts from his two published novels and an exclusive extract of his forthcoming novel Ghostkin.
Stephen Mellor wants you to know that writing this kind of hyperbole is really difficult and doing it while writing about himself in the third person is even harder.
'Down Among the Yla' is a fantasy novel set in a world of strange, underworld living beings.
'Ghostkin' is a contemporary, urban thriller set in Newcastle with a transgender woman as the protagonist. It was published by the now defunct Double Dragon Press and will be available once again - this time through bricks and mortar bookshops - from the beginning of October.
I'm currently working on a memoir, entitled 'Tea, Comics and Gender: Yet Another F***ing Trans Memoir" and a second short story collection - 'All The Books Of Earth'.
This collection of short stories is the reason why I don't read short stories. The stories are quite witty, sad, maddening, and overall really enjoyable--these stories end...and the reader will be left wanting more. When Ellen Mellor mentions that a couple of the stories should have been novels she's telling the truth. For me, the stories without references to comics are the most intriguing. Think you know what might happen next? Forget it, Ellen Mellor is already ten steps ahead...
Great book full of great short stories! I especially loved Two Households and Ian Knight: A memoir of my early years. Great and engaging stories! I slipped the previews of the other books though, since I've already read Ghostkin and have the other two books in my e-reader already, and I'll be reading those next
