No More Allergies, Asthma or Sinus Infections: The Revolutionary Approach to Eliminating Upper Respiratory Problems - Including Children's Middle Ear Infections
Lon Jones, America's most famous country doctor and practitioner of commonsense medicine, shows you how to cure yourself of allergies, sinus problems and other upper respiratory conditions. Dr. Jones proven method using nasal xylitol also helps prevent children's ear infections and cavities. His natural solution is ideal for parents wanting to cut down on their children's use of antibiotics and other allergy drugs such as antihistamines and decongestants. It's as simple as keeping your nose clean!
The rating that I give this book is based on the belief that what Dr. Jones has to say about eliminating sinus infections (specifically) is going to work. Speaking in future tense because I am going to implement his method and see what happens. Sinus infections are something which I suffer from about 2 times a year and they are very annoying and I absolutely hate having to take antibiotics to get rid of the infection. I have tried everything to avoid antibiotics and NOTHING has worked. Once the infection is entrenched in your sinuses/ears, the ONLY thing that works for me is antibiotics - at least as far as I can tell. So, what I am going to do now, based on learnings from this book, is to focus on prevention. Dr. Jones is basically saying that if you DAILY wash your nostrils/sinuses with the nasal spray he developed, which contains Xylotol, you will prevent the bugs from getting their infection gameplan going. He provides logic, stories, data, and explanation about how these bugs operate, to back this up, and so he has me convinced that prevention can work. I have begun, in the last week, to use the sinus spray he developed and now it is simply a waiting game. If I go a year without another sinus infection using this Xlear nasal spray, I will be reasonably convinced. If I go TWO years without another sinus infection, I will definitely be convinced. :)
If this prevention method does NOT work for me, then I will be back (much) later to revise my rating.
This book is an easy read with straight forward guidance on improving your health with simple methods. Especially important for babies/toddlers in daycare who get ear or sinus infections frequently, but good for any age person with sinus or allergy problems. If you want good health, read this book! I used to develope a sinus infection after a long car trip during the winter which required using the defroster. Not any more. I use the nasal spray. A clean nose is a healthy body. Also during the winter I use a humidifier beside the bed to keep healthy. This is explained in the book.
I got this book free from buying a new nasal rinse with xylitol. I've been struggling with what we're thinking are sinus infections most of the summer. I've had issues with my nose, ears, and congestion in my face that I thought were migraines. I started taking decongestants, and then my allergist didn't see any issues, but referred me to an ENT. They both recommended nasal rinses. I was very against it after watching my mom do it once and thinking it would remind me of almost drowning when I was little. It did and it was very weird, but I've gotten used to it and then found a new rinse with xylitol in it. There was a paper in the box that talked about downloading this book. It was interesting and informative to read. There were some spots that were a little too scientific to me that I skipped, but that could have been from my sinus congestion/headache I have on and off with the varying weather. It was cool to read about his experiences with patients and family and will definitely be trying the rinse again and might have to try out the nasal spray too.
Educate yourself and teach others about this simple natural inexpensive treatment.
While reading Dr Jones book my first thoughts naturally were, I wish I had known about this information when my kids were young. I feel like somehow I had my head stuck in the dirt like an ostrich or I have been cheated for all those years. Feeling cheated also lead me to feeling angry, angry that our country who provides the best medical care in the world while making sure we advance in patient care year after year fails to recognize a simple low cost treatment as a solution to upper respiratory infections in our population. Why? Plain and simple, it would eliminate the need for thousands of people to seek medical care for upper respiratory issues and our pharmaceutical companies and health-care systems would lose money. If it is not considered a drug than the FDA does not provide funding for studies and the public does not hear about it. Think about it. Why would anyone need a doctor to prescribe or pharmaceutical company to test a product that is all natural and contains no side effects? This is were our country fails us, by not educating our society on natural effective solutions for our health.
As I read this book the feeling all came back to me, my children suffering from allergies and ear infections year after year and me feeling helpless. Knowing an antibiotic is a temporary solution and wondering how much stronger of a dose my child would need with the next ear infection. Although my youngest is now ten all three of my children suffered with allergies and ear infections, also my son was diagnosed with mild asthma. I first came across xylitol when I was offered to do a review on the nasal product this past year, you can find my review on Xlear Nasal Spray on my blog Autumn Blues Reviews. I had jumped at the chance due to my son constantly suffering with allergies and of course his asthma. He had at that point outgrown ear infections but his asthma acts up when he gets a cold or an upper respiratory infection.
There is so much information in this little book that I can only say, it is a must read for every parent and caregiver. Middle ear infections are looked at in great detail in this book and the reasons why antibiotics just don't work well enough anymore is only the tip of the iceberg in this book. We all know that antibiotics also kill good bacteria with the bad, but Dr Jones taught me about biofilm. Biofilm is built by bacteria and also comes in a good form and a bad form. Bacteria build biofilm and use it as a little safe house for them to hide in and this is the main reason antibiotics sometimes can't touch it, while doctors push a higher and higher dose on the patient. This is were xylitol comes into the picture. Dr Jones goes into detail about xylitol and he clearly talks about how such a simple sugar found in nature can change forever how our children are treated when it comes to colds, allergies, ear infections, sinus infections and dental health. But xylitol is not just for children it is also for adults and highly recommended for the elderly who are highly susceptible to acquiring and even dying from bronchitis and pneumonia due to upper respiratory infections. Because as Dr Jones points out throughout his book, it all begins in the nose. Dr Jones explains how bacteria binds to xylitol and eats it but instead the bacteria do not survive and instead are washed away from the nasal area. It is a preventive measure which should be done consistently during the winter, cold and flu season. Many physicians are either behind on these treatments or just don't take natural remedies into consideration which leaves us uniformed when it comes to a natural substance like xylitol. One thing to also consider is that just not any xylitol product will be effective. If the label does not list xylitol as the first or second ingredient on the product it will not be effective enough.
If you want to get ahead of your pediatrician or family doctor read this book so you can also learn how cleansing the nasal passages with a product containing xylitol, such an inexpensive and easy to find product sold over the counter, when used daily can save your family on medical bills, trips to the doctors and needless suffering for your children, you an adult and the elderly.
2/16/18: FYI: In my latest bottle of spray, there's a pamphlet for free download of this book as a pdf at ... 2/12/20: no longer at that URL.
I've been using the xylitol spray for about 3 months now. It hasn't seemed to lessen my allergy symptoms or let me reduce my medication at all, but I still like it better than the prescription spray, which frequently had the inside of my nose oozing blood. On the plus side, I haven't gotten a cold or sick since I started using this, even after flying and being around sick family for several days.
---- I'm allergic to my cats, and it's pushed me into asthma, so when I saw the library had this I borrowed it.
The information is simple, if a bit repetitive as he hammers home the idea, but it is interesting. The central idea is that keeping your nose clean (a nasal wash with xylitol at least every 4 hours) is enough enough to take care of the bacteria & allergens you breathe in by supporting your body's own defenses.
I'll give it a try. Even if it does nothing else, it would be helpful to have a nasal spray that's safe to use more than once a day as a replacement for the prescription one that isn't.
My father-in-law (a dentist) gave me this book. He said, "I am very excited about the potential health benefits of xylitol, especially for children...Dr. Jones' approach is very similar to my thoughts about preventive dentistry."
