About the author

Mela Meisner Lindsay was born of Volga-German parents in Kindsvater Chutor on the Don Artchada in South Russia, near the Don Cossack border. Her father, David Phillip Meisner, was born in Tscherbokowka; her mother, Eva Elisabeth Dietz, in Podschinnaja (Kratzke). The family came to the United States in the spring of 1905, after the Russo-Japanese War, in which her father served as a soldier of the czar. Enjoyed the details of village life and chores of every family member. And the emotions of a young boy with a dream.
